M1K Throttle Body Removal

I tore into mine tonight. This has got to be one of the worst projects of all time. What a pain in the ***! Did you manage to not trash the oil bottle?

It is a pain..... I removed the two accessable torx screws from the bottle then had problems (anchor nut spinning in the bottle) with the one in the corner that is almost impossible to get at so I took a pry bar and got it as close to the anchor (in the bottle), squared it up and applied a little force which popped the anchor out of the bottle thus freeing the bottle up. The bottle was a little spider webbed around the anchor nut but still fine to use. I just installed the two other torx bolts (w/loctite) and left the biacht torx bolt out. Has been just fine and feels sturdy with just the two installed...

When I first got my sled the oil bottle got warped from heat so it was replaced under warranty. Lucky for me they didn't use any locktite when they put the new one in so the bolts that hold it in came out really easy. I tried to remove the tank without pulling the TB's but I don't think you can do it with out destroying the tank. Pulling the TB's isn't a lot of fun but its not as bad as I thought it would be and it give you a chance to clean everything up and check your reeds. Unfortunatley I had to pull my whole motor too but now its all cleaned up and getting welded today so hopefully I can get the motor back in it tonight. If you need any help give me a call.

when you put it back togeather eliminate the mag side coolant line and just loop the pto side coolant line back around to the pump. Budd

Budd could you elaborate on this. Are you talking about the coolant line that goes to the throttle bodies and if so are you saying that they don't need coolant. I guess I don't understand exactly what you are try to say.

Thanks, Gary

Ya thats what I'm saying. Do a closed loop right at the water pump and do not reconnect to the throttle bodies.

I am not saying your wrong cause I don't know anything about this but why would they go to the extra expense of adding cooling to the throttle bodies of it really wasn't needed? Could you explain your findings such as advantage and disadantages of not running the coolant lines to the throttle bodies.

I have not had any running issues doing this and it makes it alot easier getting the throttle bodies off and on. Budd

I would leave them on, no offense budd, just don't like a frozen or stiff throttle. and with a mesh hood or no hood theres not as much heat to keep them warm on those below zero days.

Throttle body coolant lines off is ok for Turbos because intake charge is always warm. N/A I would leave on just for those cold damp days because a stuck throttle sucks. Adjusting engine can also be done by pressing front motor mount on plate in or out or by placing washers behind any of the plate mounts to fine tune alignment.

I was able to salvage the bottle but I trashed the forward nut. Reinstalled with split washers like they should have been done in the first place. Pretty much got er done now. What a *****.

I have never had a freezing problem running non heated throttle bodies but I guess any thing is possible.
