Purchased a kit and had a few ?'s. I did do a search but couldn't find much.
What helix are people using?(4-6000 ft)
What weights?
Have m8 gearing in it now, should i go back to stock?
Power valves? Have delete kit right now?
Considering the oil delete?

Well I'm new to turboing myself and just finished up my M-1000 turbo project. The kit I went with provided 93 gram Big Dog primary weights, a 36/46 helix with BD-xtreme's "old style" adjustable cover and a shift assist. Recommendation was to use the stock orange spring. I installed a BD light diamond drive with 59/61 gears, much less would be counter productive in a turboed M-1000. From what I've read and understand about the M-1000, or M-8 for that matter, turbo'ed you are much better off running the exhaust valves, as it helps with low/med range and fuel mileage. The kit I installed deletes the oil injection to the motor and uses it to oil the turbo bearing. I was leery at first, removing the oiling unit; however, as I thought about it, it made since keeping the fuel/oil at a constant ratio. As boost climbs so does fuel usage. The stock oiling system does not adjust accordingly. So it stands to reason that on long pulls at high boost, the fuel/oil ratio could get scary lean.

Again, I am not a 2 cycle turbo guru, yet so this is more book knowledge than hands-on experience; however, it is also based on my spending a lot of time researching before I made my turbo purchase.:o

For turbo, go with 60/60 gearing. 57/63 like you have works great for NA sleds, but you are gonna have a whole lot more HP to spin that sucker. Also more likely to snap belts with the lower gearing when you are wheelying across flats.

cosarguy, is your kit a pump gas or race?

Also curious on the the ecu update. My selds a 07 and has the original mapping. Should i update it?

It's their race kit, designed to run as low as 4 or 5 lbs, or a high as 18. I plan to run it on 100ll at around 8 lbs. When I talked to them about my plans, the above listed items is what they sent. I was told with this setup I would see around 7000 RPM at 4 lbs, 7400-7500ish at 8 lbs, and up to 8000 at the higher boost settings. I finished the sled, now I am sitting back waiting for snow so I can set it up to my likings.

I have the 09 update in mine. I would leave your 07 ECU alone and set up around its mapping. Seems many experienced builders prefer it to the new mappings. The only advantage to 09 mapping, as I see it, is the ability to do electronic reverse. I don't think the 07 ECU has the capability to adapt electro reverse anyway.

It just seems like 93 gram weights is alot. I was thinking the same with the update but wanted to check. Seen a few posts saying the update was better for turbos

Yes 93 is quite a bit of weight to spin around. It depends on several variables, with boost being near the top of the list. Again, I'm new to 2 cycle boost and will have a much better idea when I get my sled on the snow. If you're down around 5 lbs of boost on your, I'm assuming a 3 weighted clutch and not the original 07 4 weighted version, then 88 to 90 grams may be closer. :face-icon-small-hap

I find most all the turbo kit makers to be very approachable with your type of questions. Give your kit maker a call. It will be time well spent :beer;:beer;
