Would love to see you update your build thread. Curious how everything worked out ( other than the long track).how many hours, any problems, and how it compares etc. etc. how does the power feel next your buddies new KTM?

Back on topic. I am definitely buying a slightly shorter track next time. Just have to wait and see what the manufactures come out with. Right now I would have a hard time deciding between a 3 inch 129 or a 3 inch 121. The capability of the long track is definitely nice sometimes. There have been a couple days this year that I gained a ridge that allowed me to access epic downhill lines that my buddies on short tracks could not.

Yeah I've been a bit negligent about updating that thread. I have 17 hours on the bike and had to hammer out a few issues but the bike is now squared away and rips. It's everything I wanted and more.

The ski saddle mod worked out great. Just had a solid morning with great snow, and about 15 miles of groomed trail to get to the good spots and it was great. I think the increase in trail makes the bike way more stable, which I think makes it feel more nimble because of the increased confidence in the ski.

Cut the track down to 11.5 inches and get the new ski and you have a almost 2018. Been done before the narrow track helps a bunch and the loss in floatation is negligible even with the 10"ski .

I like it.

What's the best technique for cutting the track?

I use a Bigfoot beamsaw with 10.25" blade, sawzall to finish cutting paddles, and millerlight or jameson! I cut a track to 11.5" a couple years ago and could not notice that much difference honestly.

Update:

After some more testing in hard snow conditions I've determined thay moving the ski mountain forward on the TS ski is a win. This combined with a spacer beneath the rear of the bumper is just great.

I think my next project is going to be cutting the track down to 11.5". I will likely try out the new ski next year as well.

Depends on how picky you are , Fussed over how I wanted to do it since there are so many ways and it came down to this . I used a skill saw with a carbide tipped finishing blade , screwed a shelf bracket to a piece of plywood for a guide and a board to hold the track up . The cut is about perfect , measurement all the way around is dead on . Let the saw do the work , push don't pull so you don't drift . It's messy , stinky and noisy and a few precautions wouldn't be a bad idea . I still have to cut the lugs , haven't decided on what kind I want but I'm gonna use a sawzall with a sharpened straight edge .

I used a table saw and screwed a wooden slider exactly the size of the spacing between the plastic lugs on the track windows( where the slider usually runs just a tighter fit) to the saw. With 2 guys one pulling and on pushing to feed it through even and smooth it works perfect and has great smooth edge. Finish cut the paddles with an exactor knife, they cut like butter if you use a sharp new blade. Once set up it takes about 5 minutes a side.
