LR800 went down :(

I won't mention the builder yet until I contact him.

I was just bombing along the trail and it made a funny noise and died instantly. Was about 6-7000rpm and half throttle or so.

So now that you have contacted him who is your builder?

Thanks

All things mechanical can fail... Even "hand built" ones with warranty.

Excuse my ignorance because I don't know but isn't spi a cheap oem knockoff?

We have used SPI pistons for years in our turbo motors. 8lbs to more than imaginable. We have never had one single failure.

Spi

If u bought a Gmc and pulled up and they had a similar Chevy model waiting there for u would that piss u off? It's not a matter of wether SPI works it's a matter of what was promised and what was delivered. I will b going back to stock jugs and stock oem pistons wether it's warrantied or not.

So let me get this straight.. Some of the motors mentioned above went down do to lack of oil which is out of any builders control and Dan is still covering the warranty....unheard of and flat out amazing if you ask me! Nice job Indy specialty

What is this? Middle school? Nobody wants to mention the builder. What's the point of the 4M if you come on here to report an issue but don't want to provide details? Reminds me of the crap you get on Facebook.

I went in to the original posters profile and back tracked some of there existing post and it mentioned who more then likely built their motor...:face-icon-small-hap

I respect Indy specialties for warrantying my motor due to lack of oil. The others motors are not mine so I will not post about them. I didn't post to put down Dan in anyway. Only complaint I have is that he used not Polaris pistons when he rebuilt my motor the 2nd time. But its running well so I cant complain too much. I actually went up today and did a fun little drag race up a hill with some buddies. We were all surprised on my sled. Ran against a Tpro at 7#, 13 XM with goodies and my LRTM with slp stage 3 kit. I gave the Tpro a run for his money till the end and the XM didn't have a chance. XM is clutched, pipe, y pipe, can and some lightweight crap.

Dan has never used any pistons made in China in his engines... EVER. He has pistons made to HIS spec and he has used 3 OEM type pistons in the 800 small block. All OEM Polaris pistons are imported from India, Brazil, Austria etc. If you read his EBAY store, he does NOT say anywhere they are factory Polaris pistons, he does offer an OPTION of Polaris OEM pistons for $400 additional when you are ordering your engine.

We have 5 long rods in our group from Dan with no pistons issues at all and all are running his pistons.

I don't really think it matters what piston is in the motor if the builder is going to take care of them via a warranty.

If you read the paperwork/work order that came with your engine. It states that if you disassemble the engine the warranty will be void.

I personally have used SPI pistons in plenty of engines and have found them to be a quality piston that is economical. I have not had any failures with SPI pistons. I have used them in turbo engines, big bores making 140-160hp and triples spinning 8700-9000 RPM on a 100 shot of spray. NO pistons issues.

No worries at all...my post wasn't intended to point out anything except for the fact that he's willing to cover something that wasn't really his fault to save face... sorry if it came off as something other then that. Glad your happy with your sled, other then the SPI pistons. I'm sure there's a good explanation why on that, but I'm guessing Polaris pistons were on back order and it was next best thing or only option. Jmo! Thanks

The only reason I didn't mention builder is for the other reason this forum turns to trash. Ya it's a Indy LRTM3. U come on and tell the truth and your experience and everyone wants to call BS. I put out damn good $ for my motor just like others, my experience hasn't been the greatest with durability. Does that mean Dan doesn't put out a good product?no, I just didn't get it? For all the guys who have great running motors that's awesome.
I bought mine from talking to Dan direct and ordered to my specs and with warranty. And yes I paid the extra for Polaris pistons.
As for tearing the engine apart and voiding warranty? It's my motor, I'm an honest guy and if Dan chooses to void warranty then that's on me. Just makes me think he's hiding something or a mistake happened in assembly.
So let the disbelievers continue

I don't think anyone is intentionally disagreeing with you. Often times when having a discussion online, and not being face to face, tones can be misinterpreted. Men suck at typing! It sucks this happened to your motor, but I have no doubt in my mind that once you talk to Dan calmly, it will get resolved 100%. Good luck!

Polaris pistons for domestic twins are made where?

Polaris pistons for domestic twins are made where?

Italy by the ASSO piston company, they are the current supplier for the 600 & 800 engines, from my research, they appear to be an Itialian company that makes pistons in a variety of places, one of them being India.

ELKO/Konig have multiple manufacturing facilities in Austria, Brazil, Thailand, Korea (assuming south) India, China, Mexico etc.

I don't think any of the US twins ever built by Polaris have had a piston from within the US installed.

so if you look inside the engine to find out if you got what you paid for your warranty is void and that means if it goes down and you pull the head to see what happened you have no warranty. sounds a little fishy to me

No one is immune, That is a fact.

And is sounds like those oil vent caps are really screwing up peoples investments.
some days my sled seems to burn more oil than others, I took my oil cap off and tried blowing threw the vent, I could not tell if any air was even releasing.

simple little part to take down big motors.

Folks can we please keep this an informative thread and not a bashing.

I didn't post to do any bashing of any sort.

And FYI, the cat I rode today was a big bore and climbed like a mofo!! I also enjoyed the kmod skid and raptors.

I would guess he wants the motor untouched for evaluation. Nothing fishy about it. Also not pointing fingers at anyone here, but customers can self induce a lot of problems. I can see someone opening the motor, causing a problem, put it back together. Go for a ride, motor locks up and the first call is to Dan.

I don't think Dan would ever intentionally cheat anyone. Why would someone do warranty work when they didn't have too? And then slip different pistons in to make a extra buck. Doesn't make sense to me.

Ghost Rider .... I don't think at this point anyone is calling BS. You have to understand it seems like every six months or so, someone comes on here and throws stones at Dan. Every time it seems like someone has not told the entire story.

I haven't seen anyone slinging crap yet. I can sense your frustration, which I can understand. What caused your failures, I have no idea. Was it the pistons, very doubtful. Should the oem pistons be in your motor, if that was the agreement made, then sure. I would guess it was a simple oversight, nothing more. I am sure Dan will work with you and get it taken care of.

Biltit.... Tomorrow can you ride a cat with one of those fancy super chargers? I am dieing for more info on them.
