and people still blast Polaris for failures at 1500+ miles?
What exactly does your post add to this thread? Are you saying we shouldn't expect 2000+ miles out of a poo 800 engine?

I won't mention the builder yet until I contact him.
I was just bombing along the trail and it made a funny noise and died instantly. Was about 6-7000rpm and half throttle or so.

What is this? Middle school? Nobody wants to mention the builder. What's the point of the 4M if you come on here to report an issue but don't want to provide details? Reminds me of the crap you get on Facebook.
So let me get this straight.. Some of the motors mentioned above went down do to lack of oil which is out of any builders control and Dan is still covering the warranty....unheard of and flat out amazing if you ask me! Nice job Indy specialty
I respect Indy specialties for warrantying my motor due to lack of oil. The others motors are not mine so I will not post about them. I didn't post to put down Dan in anyway. Only complaint I have is that he used not Polaris pistons when he rebuilt my motor the 2nd time. But its running well so I cant complain too much. I actually went up today and did a fun little drag race up a hill with some buddies. We were all surprised on my sled. Ran against a Tpro at 7#, 13 XM with goodies and my LRTM with slp stage 3 kit. I gave the Tpro a run for his money till the end and the XM didn't have a chance. XM is clutched, pipe, y pipe, can and some lightweight crap.
The only reason I didn't mention builder is for the other reason this forum turns to trash. Ya it's a Indy LRTM3. U come on and tell the truth and your experience and everyone wants to call BS. I put out damn good $ for my motor just like others, my experience hasn't been the greatest with durability. Does that mean Dan doesn't put out a good product?no, I just didn't get it? For all the guys who have great running motors that's awesome.
I bought mine from talking to Dan direct and ordered to my specs and with warranty. And yes I paid the extra for Polaris pistons.
As for tearing the engine apart and voiding warranty? It's my motor, I'm an honest guy and if Dan chooses to void warranty then that's on me. Just makes me think he's hiding something or a mistake happened in assembly.
So let the disbelievers continue
Dan has never used any pistons made in China in his engines... EVER. He has pistons made to HIS spec and he has used 3 OEM type pistons in the 800 small block. All OEM Polaris pistons are imported from India, Taiwan etc. .
Polaris pistons for domestic twins are made where?
Dan has never used any pistons made in China in his engines... EVER. He has pistons made to HIS spec and he has used 3 OEM type pistons in the 800 small block. All OEM Polaris pistons are imported from India, Brazil, Austria etc. If you read his EBAY store, he does NOT say anywhere they are factory Polaris pistons, he does offer an OPTION of Polaris OEM pistons for $400 additional when you are ordering your engine.
We have 5 long rods in our group from Dan with no pistons issues at all and all are running his pistons.
I don't really think it matters what piston is in the motor if the builder is going to take care of them via a warranty.
If you read the paperwork/work order that came with your engine. It states that if you disassemble the engine the warranty will be void.
I personally have used SPI pistons in plenty of engines and have found them to be a quality piston that is economical. I have not had any failures with SPI pistons. I have used them in turbo engines, big bores making 140-160hp and triples spinning 8700-9000 RPM on a 100 shot of spray. NO pistons issues.
so if you look inside the engine to find out if you got what you paid for your warranty is void and that means if it goes down and you pull the head to see what happened you have no warranty. sounds a little fishy to me
