Lowman Parking...

Just an FYI... parking in Lowman has just gotten worse. The South Fork Lodge closed last weekend and now the parking area that they plowed will no longer be accessible. The old gas station has parking next to it but sense it's closed the owner isn't plowing that one either. I wrote a letter to the county commissioner letting them know that the businesses that are left are going to suffer due to the lack of parking, if you get a chance send them an email. The only solution I see is the county get with the owner of the lot next to the store and see if they can work out a deal where the lot gets plowed. I'm not sure who plows the lot at Morris Creek Summit but possibly something can be worked out. If not... groups going to Stanley and Bear Valley will have to access them from Warm Lake and grooming of the clear creek trail will suffer.

Also... I've heard that the sheriff and state police will ticket if you park on private land or on the side of the highway. It's kind of funny that Parks and Rec show Lowman has a trail head to Bear Valley and Stanley but they don't' provide bathrooms and parking.

Here is a link to the county commissioners... take a minute to email them.

FYI the state plows out Mores Creek Summitt and Whoop-Um-Up, when they are not busy plowing highway 21 and then the Idaho City Groomer IC-8A Fund is charged for a part of the plowing which cuts in to the money for fuel and labor for Trail Grooming. Keeping in mind that most of the Groomer Funds this year have less money to work with and are depending heavily on volunteer help to get by.

Definitely going to send a quick email. Thanks for the heads up, I was planning on hitting Bear Valley on Wednesday. I don't see why they just can't plow out the old gas station lot for us. Maybe the Stanley Chamber of Commerce would get involved.
There's a small pull out next to the road right at the intersection. I wonder if they would ticket me for parking there.

They do ticket from time to time on the corner of Hwy 21 and 17... there is a large sign showing snow plow turn around.

As for the old gas station... it's up to the owner and he would be liable if someone got hurt.

Have fun in Bear Valley...

We parked next to the Bear Valley entrance 12/19 and didn't get ticketed, not at the plow turn around sign. Snow cover was light so we got lucky but it almost seems as if they (usfs, blm, etc) don't want us to use our land, with all the parking restrictions, land closures, etc.

I know there are little spots here and there for parking, but I guess my main point was when groups from local clubs go into Stanley for the weekend there isn't room to park.

I've seen 20 rigs parked at the Southfork and at the gas station with people heading to Stanley for the weekend.

Does it appear they are grooming north from Lowman? I am not familiar with the local use of the trail, but if folks can't trailer to the area and park then what is the point in grooming. Big loss here with no parking....almost half my trips are normally to Lowman.
