Low Idle

I spoke with a very knowledgeable shop owner over the weekend. The low idle is intentional regardless of what the manual says. It's part of the latest EPA bs and Polaris has no intention of changing, adjusting, TPS-ing, ECUing...

His advise, hit the flipper enough to keep it running or turn it off.

That has to be the biggest line of BS I've ever heard.

mine will sometimes shut off when I'm trying to let it warm up before we start riding. After its warm it never has a problem idling. I think next fall I'll tear into it and adjust it. I don't want to mess with it right now!

I believe you can even use less than 12 volts. Some of the testers you buy use a 9 volt battery.

Your talking about 2 different things. The testers that use 9 volt batteries are producing a 5 volt signal and dont use the ECM at all to make the adjustment. The 12 volt battery method is to power up the ECM and let the ECM provide the 5 volt signal to the TPS. Eric

Polaris will be releasing a new map to fix this problem shortly. Most of the tps are spot on, this is a fuel issue.

You know this how? If it is a fuel wouldn't all of them do it? Mine is starting to act up, but wife's is not. Both sleds set up exactly the same with only a couple miles difference on them. Not saying you are wrong, just wondering how you know this.

Mine and my brothers sleds idle and run perfect.
20 ish hours.
Slp pipe since new.
76 grams of weight in each arm.
A2d motor sports clutching.
8350 rpm at 3-5k elevation.

Anyone remember the vforce 3 reed debacle of last year???
Some sleds would idle with them some would not.........
This sounds similar.

I had a set of those debacles, put stockers in and it ran great, I like the way you think

Then a new map will not work. Right.

Some guys were able to get the sleds to idle with fuel changes.

I was not.
Tweaking the pcv all over the idle circuit.

Poo is undoubtedly thinking a remap is easier and cheaper for the masses.
Then the guys who still won't idle maybe get new reeds?
Don't lose hope that poo will fix it.
Consider pushing for different reeds as a way to test the theory?

Essentially the way I understand it the reeds were too stiff and were unable to let the engine pulse bring in enough air at idle to keep the fuel air ratio correct.

My vf3's went back to v-force and they proceeded to shaft a2d with no response/no refund.
However a2d (chad being a stand up guy) gave me store credit to cover the cost.

Maybe so. But how much time are you willing to waste if he's right.

Please tell us which "experienced dealer" this is so I can put them on my "do not bother with" list of Colorado Poo dealers. That is the laziest answer I have ever heard. There are a ton of guys that have brought sleds in, had the TPS base setting done CORRECTLY and no longer have any issues.

I brought my Pro to three dealers last season, 15 visits to get the TPS adjustment set correctly. Instantly fixed my poor idle condition once they took the time to do the job right.

Just live with it.... NOT!

Doesn't explain all of the sleds that HAVE been fixed with just a TPS adjustment...

Just a thought, there may be a fuelling issue that is compounded with TPS settings being off slightly...hence why there is an improvement in running quality once TPS is properly set to spec.

I hope this is right and I could see it with as many issues as people are having. But, how do you know this? Do you know when the new map would be available? And are we being contacted directly by polaris to come in on a recall or is this something we have to ask for?

I never thought this would be of value to anyone, and I may be right and it isn't.

The first time I brought the 11 pro up to altitude, 10k+, it would not idle long enough to build heat or anything else. Since mountain time is short, I adjusted the idle at the handlebar adjustment thingy so I didn't need to keep a finger on the flipper. Rode it all week long and releleased the cable tension when I remembered and summerized the sled.

On the trip out next year, it dawned on me that i never fixed the idle issue. It wasn't a problem that year or since. I have no idea how, what, or why, but maybe its in the altitude compensation? or air density or whatever they use.

Well the quotes I am reading, and you can read them for yourself right here in this thread, are that several people have had TPS adjustments done, most of them reporting the base setting was out of spec. Results are happy customers with great running sleds... like the one I bought.

If the map is wrong, why does it feel so right? For most everybody that is...
