Love the PRO RMK, hate the reliability of the 800, will a 600 Pro work?

Yes, if the 600 weighed 40 lbs. less it would be a no brainer.

However, it doesn't, so things like being able to spend more time on the snow and less time in the shop fighting to get issues warrantied rise to the forefront.

Not having to replace the top end every 1,000 miles also means a lot.

I have no doubt that the 800 works much better than the 600 when the motor is healthy. It's the fact that unfortunately the 800 motor has developed a reputation, which is the reason I posted the original question.

Which begs the question, is the 600 motor really more reliable than the 800? There is that perception, I just don't know if it is really true?

If reliability is your main concern and the 600 really is more reliable then I guess you answered your own question, my point is that less power is a detriment most of the time.

I still think a used Pro with a BB is your best bang for the buck. Nimble, reliable and more power.

I am in the market for a new sled and I have been researching the new sleds. I took the Plosris full day challenge ride and I LOVE the flickability of the Pro chassis but, I am scared to death of the long term reliability of the 800 motor.

I wish Polaris still made the reliable 700 motor and used it in the Pro chassis but, they don't. So, could a 170 lbs. guy that has been riding a modified 170 hp M8 ever be happy on a 125 hp 600 Pro PMK?

I am all about boondocking and couldn't care less about highmarking. However, I do want plenty of power to go the places my friends with 800 sleds go. In fact, in a lot of cases when boondocking I lead. Would the 600 Pro RMK in a 155" work for me?

i am a 15 year old and i have had the 2012 pro rmk for three seasons now. i love it its no different for flickability than the 8. i wieghs 431 pounds. im going into this season with 3000 miles and on a good year i make about 2500 miles. im not too worried about it cradering. and the re sale is a lot better for the 600s because not too many people buy them. my next sled will be a 800 because the 600 was having a bit of trouble in about 4 feet of pow.

Exactly what I was wondering. Take a brand new 600 and tape the throttle to the bars for 2000 miles in deep snow, Would it fair any better than the 800???
I don't mean any disrespect to any 600 owners but I think the majority of them sold are ridden pretty easy. jmo

I would also be interested in seeing the sales comparison between 6's and 8's. I'm guessing that they sell 2-3 times as many 8's, so you would hear about more motor problems with 8's by comparison, and your point I think is a valid one, most 8's probably have a harder life than the 6's due to who is buying them(on average).

I think anymore the average rider anymore would be be just fine and maybe even happy with a 600. My dad's got an 09 800 and I'm pushing him to get a used 13 600 with SLP pipe because they are so much cheaper then used 800's and loosing the weight from the 09 to the '13 would perform just about the same most of the time.
