Loud pipes

You're right PJ06M7. But I think those talking down loud pipes are not saying anyone with a loud sled should change it to be quiet. A guy came on here looking for loud pipes to PUT ON his sled. People looking for loud pipes intentially are what most on here are griping about.

Actually no, I do think if you have a loud pipe you should change it.

If BD comes out with a super quiet turbo exhaust, I'll gladly buy it and install it just as I've done on with the FMF Q4 on my quad and the Pro Moto Billet quiet exhuast tip on my KTM bike.

The Mile Hi Snowmobile Club has an authorized dB meter which we have available to test sleds. Anyone interested, PM me.

As a side note, the 5 yr old SLP can on my sled registered 90dB. Two factors may have increased the sound: my stock pipe is cereamic coated and may have added some dBs and my clutch comes in at 3,500 rpm which puts a load on the engine at 4,000. I refused to run the 4,000 as I did not want to fry my belt. Tom M of State Parks did not know how to deal with that except to say the RPM range is 4,000 +/- 200 for 4 seconds.

Even though we were told that only obvious, obnoxious sleds would be scrutenized, I decided to give up the 7# weight advantage of the SLP and reinstall the stock can--maybe the extra weight of the stock can on the right side of my sled will help me side hill to the right better. Also, I don't think the FS will be as forgiving as State Parks, and they are everywhere.

The whole reason I did this BD kit is that it was the tunnel dump exhaust and was supposed to be quiet. I guess we'll see if I pass the sound check. If I don't, I guess i'll have to pay somone to build a custom baffled exhaust

DM... please let us know if you get checked and the results. I have been wanting to find some sort of silencer to put on my T, just have not found one that fits nice.

The RPM range scares me, because mine almost gets quiter in the higher rpms, either that or the other guys catch up.

Even if it doesn't pass, it's much quieter than a regular outlet, also if you ride a long track, the tunnel dump is a better way to do it anyhow, it avoids exhaust bog. I've got a cutler which has a can on it & it's pretty quiet, but if I had a longer track & the nose was in the snow more I think it would bog.

I've given thought to turning my turbo around & doing the tunnel dump, but it seems like a lot of work.

I really hope that the turbos keep moving toward quieter setups, as more & more people get them it's going to be a big factor in how the outsiders see us.

Definetly agree that for the sake of our sport we need to be cautious of our sound levels, but at the same time I do think we could be a little less aggressive whither a fellow rider when someone asks a question... isn't that what this forum is all about, asking questions, answering questions, gaining knowledge, getting info and maybe meeting others that share an interest? Yes, there are points to be made but when people sound and act like children do YOU even wanna listen or pay attention? I like having conversations with adults personally, even if I play like a kid... just a thought. I'm an Amurican!!:usa2:

Well when we built it(custom fabbed entire system ourselves) it came down to time. We were leaving in a few days and the final exhaust was the last thing done. We didnt have time to order in a silencer. In the trailer mine is obnoxious, I hate it. Once you get on the throttle, it settles down.

The two guys I ride with both have tripple turbos, and its a space factor. After reading this and talking today, the three of us might have to figure something out. We have a couple places in CO we like to ride. Regardless it probably should have been done a year ago.
