Lost Spot Messenger on Boulder

hey bob, when going into the backcountry with your spot, first rule don't misplace your spot, years must be sneaking up on ya. :D

lost spot

Ya, especially the same day as we almost spent the night on the mountain...Marv had to have a cigar, I remember taking the spot out of my bag to get the cigars....that was on the flat below turbo...right where it was found, of course it got covered in snow later in the day. (These guys remembered my post of the lost spot and sent me a PM that they found it)
I was with Marv and Krebs...later that day we had a freak snow storm come from the east, yes the east (not forcast and it was overcast but nice when we left....started heading back when we noticed it getting worse but headed right into it) and the storm trapped us on the way out...zero visibility, and i mean zero, and stormy.(I use to fly for a living and have an IFR rating so I'm pretty good with visibility especially when you cannot see LOL) We built a shelter and cut firewood...had a nice fire. The vis got a bit better later on after dark and I climbed a hill and got cell reception....fluke to get cell reception there as you know, called Smokey Bear for gps coord to sugar bowl and we found our way out at 10:30 pm. Krebs and I bought the Garmin Rino 530's last year, but i put a new card in mine to get a clean trak from the cabin into turbo so it was empty...no waypoints. When we got to the cabin in the morning, Krebs saw his 530 was dead and he forgot his 12 volt cord, so I gave him my unit to use and put his on my sled to charge with the 12 volt I installed on my Rev. He did not turn tracking on when we left the cabin and I left his off to charge faster. Also, I have a map of Boulder with all the gps coord in my backpack but because my son was not with us, I used his light weight Avy Bag and transfered all the emergency supplies over, but not the map! Had the map for 4-5 years and never needed it. Talk about a series of events....WOW. Search and rescue and RCMP had been notified but they where not coming because of the dark and stormy whiteout conditions....they also knew we had supplies, a fire(told them on cell) extra clothing and gloves, food, water....ect. Had hand and feet warmers and a super light weight "chain saw" not the motorized type....to cut down the dead fall (4 saws in total with us), so there was no panic. Still had no desire to sleep (or not sleep) up on the mountain especially with Marv and Krebs!

***** THANKS to the guys that found my spot, and for sending it back to me on Greyhound!!!!! I'm buying a few beers next season! :beer;:beer;:beer;:)
