Lost sledders in Deadwood area...

Just saw this on a local news station site and was wondering if anyone had any more information concerning the lost sledders in the Deadwood area. This is in Boise County about an hours drive north of Boise. I know there are few guys off the forums that ride this area quite a bit. It is also a popular place for people to go early in the season and if you didn't know where you were going you could get into some nasty country. On top of all that, we picked up some serious snow in the high country, lucky the temps haven't gotten real cold so staying overnight wouldn't be too bad. Hope they didn't just go out for that breaking ride and forget some key survivor gear. Hope all goes well.:)

Here is a link to the news station... doesn't say much.

Deadwood

Just got off the phone with S&R. They think they have it narrowed down to a 2 mile area. We were up there on Sunday and saw the tracks, they came up Scott Mtn. and headed towards the Scott Mtn. lookout. Looked like they had went up on Saturday and when their rig was still at the bottom when we came out I figured they had rented the lookout and were hunkered down, it was cloudy all day but didn't start to snow until about 3:00. Ours and theirs were the only tracks up there. Getting ready to give my boss the bad news, I won't be here for the rest of the day...

Good news John... thanks for the update. Too early in the season for this type of stuff to already be going on. Hope everyone is ok... I wonder what happened.

Sounds to me like they were on the road up to SM lookout and may have dropped off to the south. That road gets drifted out pretty good, if you don't know where it is you can sure end up in some places you don't want to be.

Thanks for the update.. Saw the news broadcast and was glad they were found alive. Not a good way to start the season.

Okay - this is a lesson learned! The person I carpool with works with the wife of the guy who was lost. Come to find out, he has a CRICKET cell phone, and it is not GPS capable. So they couldn't track him. Otherwise, they would have located them much faster.

Be sure if you have your cell phone with you the GPS is enabled and your phone actually has it.

The wife said they were lifeflighted to Boise and were in good shape. Good news - way too early in the season for this kind of stuff to be happening. Hopefully they learned some things...........like don't go out in a sweatshirt and jacket. Be prepared to spend the night, then take off layers. No cotton, etc. Common sense.

<and I step off the soapbox>

:) 2fun

go read my posts over on snow conditions.

the dude gave directions to the point where someone left boise at 11:30 am this morning, and was almost first on scene.

on a snowmobile of course.

IMSARU doesn't believe in using snowmobiles for searches. 4 boise dudes broke the blockade and got up there.

it turns out it was SNOWING on the mountain, which hampered search efforts.

Now how effective can a search party be that won't use technolgy to thier advantage? Just who I want looking for me in a snow storm 7 miles from staging. I was on IMASRU website can't find anything on thier rescue tools other than the "Dogs"

I am glad these guys made it out OK. I also would like to thank them for my new SPOT Satellite Messenger system, courtesy of my wife (and Santa Claus), who I asked to read this thread.
