King 5 reporting lost sledder found up Gallahager with no survival equipment. Anyone know more? Lucky man bet he is a little more predard on his next outing:face-icon-small-con

Was up all day with Search/Rescue. Since I was out the door at 5:00 am, I came out about 3:00 as a 2nd team was heading up. Just got a text at 5:03 pm that he has been located.

Story - He and a friend we up riding Christmas day. From out of the area and didn't know the area well. Got separated about noon and friend came down for help about 3:00 pm....Team of 4 go up last night, no luck, poor visibility....Sled was found today about 11:00 am, stuck and abandoned when he had tried to ride down the Boulder creek drainage....Footprints leading down the creek.

Tried to go up the creek from below (4330 rd)....No luck... 2nd team heading up about 2:30 with orders to be back down to the 4330 Rd by dark...Glad it all worked out.......

About 20 yrs ago, I rode a m/c down Boulder Creek trail. I was the only one there today that had ever been on that trail....If, you'd ever did it, you would know how trying to sled down would go?

boulder creek trail

Ya, I've ridden that trail many times , It's barely wide enough for dirt bike, the creek bottom would be a disaster, glad they found him, this shows you that just some cheep 2way motorola radio's might have been a big help, I never ride with out them, kids and wife always carry them,

RADIOS PEOPLE............GPS ALSO !!! RADIOS ARE MADE FOR A REASON...

Even if you know the area well, a radio and gps can be very, very valuable.

The first ride of this season my group followed me down into an area that was extremely difficult to get out of. It was my fault of exploring too much after 2:00. We spent over 2 hours trying to get back out. I knew where we were the whole time, but by the time we got out, we were losing light and it started to snow. The trail markers were not up yet and when it got dark and the snow came in hard, there was no way we would have gotten back to the truck without the gps' in our group. I know the area well, but if you can't see, it doesn't do you any good.

I hear this story at least a few times every year, In particular from guys who have removed headlights. Be smart, have the proper gear you need to safely ride day or night..You never know what might happen..

ya mark hunt kelcey morse justin morse jay jay ulmer brian gibson and logan gibson found him supposibly search and rescue found the sled but when i got to the sled there was no tracks i would advise search and rescue go and get someriding lessons because they where not going to go down and get him where he was at

Dave, are you just gonna be a puss and keep giving me red? Or, do you want to man up and tell me what was bad about my posts?

Edit;

Yup, I was right, you are a puss. I post up a valuable learning lesson that I had after others noted the importance of radios and gps and all you can do is hit thumbs down? FY.

Ya, Mark Hunt, Kelcey Morse, Justin Morse, Jay Jay Ulmer, Brian Gibson and Logan Gibson found him. Supposedly search and rescue found the sled, but when I got to the sled there were no tracks. Fixed it for ya!! Welcome!

Do you know if their decision to not go to him was based on riding ability or liability issues due to darkness, visability, not wanting to add to the base problem?

Just curious because it might be good info to have if I were in his situation.
Sounds like a tough area to ride out of, maybe they were worried about getting out with one sled two up? I don't know, was it dark when they found him? Also sounds like they were up against the time they were ordered to be back out of the area.

I know I have only been involved with S/R on one occasion, but I was interested in the process and priorities of the group which was NOT an all out man hunt as much as it was an effort to bring home the lost (in this case injured) rider ALONG with ALL members of the S/R team.

Personally, I am very glad that there are good folks that are willing and able to drag folks back to the world when they have made some bad choices, Thank you !!

And I agree, we never travel without maps, compass, GPS and radios. I am amazed at how many folks we run across that have none of those things with them!
