Looking for the best bag/gas can options for my SKS

Hopefully that's the case, I hardly use mine, only when I go out west. Most of my riding is done in the UP and extra gas is not needed for the type of riding I do. I feel much better heading out in the mountains with extra fuel.

I quit carrying gas when the Pros came out in 2011. I just have never come close to needing it. I can't see adding the weight. I had a shovel bag on my 11 and my 13 but I may not use it anymore either. I bought an airbag vest with shovel holder and pack. I have the small bag behind the windshield (short one) on my 16 Axys for spare gloves and goggles. Everything else I need will go in the pack. I hate loading up the tunnel with anything if I can help it. The sled runs cooler without all of that stuff back there too and they definitely handle better. I have done 60 plus mile days in the steep and deep and have come back with gas to spare.

Ditto

Mountain addiction stuff is great for about the first half season. After that it starts falling off on rollovers and every time you have to ride moguls. (But i forgot, half the guys on here seem to think they never have to ride trail. Must just heli drop their sleds onto the mountain). The zippers on the MA bag aren't the best either. If your forget to manually vent your gas cans, especially the 3.3 gallon, they will warp and not go on the rails. Many of my riding buddies and myself ran mountain addiction for quite a few years. There are very few of us left running it. It is the best looking setup on the market, but just not the best mounting system for me. Check out the sled solutions tunnel bags.

Me and my friends had similar issues. I have even lost one of the small gas cans. My buddies 3.3 gal can would fall off constantly.

Into have had issues with the mountain addictions cans popping off. I believe they had a bad mold or something at one point. I lost one of my 1.3 cans. It's the third time that has happened. I got a hold of mountain addictions to see if they would send me a replacement or at least discount a new set up for me. They really were not willing to work with me and pretty much said I'm on my own.
I sent them videos showing how easy my cans would pop off the rail. Really sad to see a company not stand behind there product when a mistake was made during manufacturing.
The customer pays heavily for a pretty slick design that fails, and is left with the junk and a bill.
Not Impressed With Mountain addictions

MA experience - Simple and intuitive design, but not bulletproof. Only one bag system really is. I can see rails/can fittings wearing out and getting loose, and molding tolerances floating around, and once rail/bags are f'ed up for whatever reason, they are never going to be 100% again. Bag is absolutely waterproof in anything except submersions. I carry an extra shovel on the bag.

I've run a 3.3 can and low rise bag since the 2011 pro came out across three poos, maybe 6k miles (don't run both or either all the time), with no recurring issues, but I've seen issues that others have had, and see the potential. Run moguls as hard as Evol R's can hit them, with unstuck rollovers, they haven't been trailer queened. Quirks - I "broke in" 3 sets of rails in the garage carefully, one at a time, with lube, to get them to seat and slide well. I've personally seen a rail missed on slide on, can got blew off full, and never worked right on the guy's sled again. See the once f'ed up comment above. Once they get warped or blown off track, they are hosed. The can will swell, especially if not completely full or burped when it gets warm. Zipper on original bag can be easily tweaked, don't know if they upgraded it. MA thinks they are pretty special, and never gives anything away as a deal, they like their pricing power. They would sell a lot more if they lowered their margins to something more reasonable. Doo's Link-Q is simply the best attachment system there is - have doo, too. Not cheap, either. JMPE, take it FWIW.

I will never agree with putting your shovel on the sled unless it is your larger back up shovel. And you have a smaller shovel in your pack. If it is an item your sled needs it should be mounted on your sled. Gas, belt etc. If the item is something you need it should be on you! Water, protein bar, shovel, gloves, hat, phone etc. These should be in your pocket or back pack. That shovel is useless if your sled is buried and you are scrambling to find for your buried partner. If your sled disappears what do you have? Think about it.. this could save your life.

very good point!
I run a shovel on my back and one on my sled.

It is much more convenient to use the shovel off the sled to unbury than having to pull the one out of the pack

FWIW, I always have an aluminum shovel in my ABS bag, on my back, and only take it off to change layers, jacket. Shovel on the sled/top of bag is to dig out myself and others without taking off my bag. You're often at high risk digging, and taking off a bag to dig is dumb. The shovels are interchangeable, so if I lose a piece, I always have a backup. Won't ride with peeps who don't carry a shovel on their back in avy country. If you can't handle the weight on your back, you're gonna be pretty worthless to dig in a rescue.
