Looking for the best bag/gas can options for my SKS

I have a rail mounted gas can holder that works great. However, I quit using it since the Pros (11 and 13) that I owned did not need extra fuel for the type of riding that I was doing. I could not see why I should add weight to the back of the sled when I didn't need it. A hard day of riding in the Idaho backcountry for me still leaves me with enough leftover fuel in the tank. I can see needing it if you are putting in 75+ mile days but less than that and you probably don't need it.
Thats the thing, we regularly do 100+ miles in Maine, and the gas is often hard to find, the farther out you get. Even my etec would burn through a tank in less than 100 miles if the going was hard. The Powderkeg and MA cans/small Burandt bag looks like it might fit the bill.

Bumping this to the top. I've been looking at the Mountain Addiction setup for extra fuel , but really? 140 bucks for two 1 gallon plastic gas cans and a couple plastic rails???

yup......its gross. but as a plus they are substantionally thicker than a wedco but still does not justify the price.

FWIW, I have five seasons on a can (3.5), bag, and three sets of rails (for swapping across sleds). All still it pretty good shape. (Zipper is the weak point on the old bags, and as stated, they've been upgraded.) Nothing stored in the sun, or out in the open. Never had anything in a bag get wet.

So, you can get some years out of them. Except for the bag zips, quality is pretty good. Cost is very high. And you won't find deals. The minimalist design isn't perfect, but can work very well, especially if you ride back to back days without thawing out sleds, straps, bags, etc.

Anyone know if they offer a discount to customers to replace old bag covers?

Do you have to drill holes for the Mountain Addiction rails or do they utilize the T-slots in tunnel.

Craigger Built QSR. I have had a couple different ones in the past including MA but have had QSR for 6 seasons still holding up great.

May sound a little bit ridiculous, but a portable plastic tool box has been the best tunnel storage I have had. For under $20 you can get a box, carriage bolts, large flat washers and some lock nuts. Drill a few holes and you have dry durable storage. I drill a few holes in the lid, and a few in the sides, and zip ties the top and bottom shut incase the latch fails. I only keep the things I take but hope to not need in there, such as a bivvy sack, first aid kit, survival kit, spare food, water, tow rope, and dry socks and gloves. You can fit alot of stuff in a 15" wide tool box, everything else is kept in my handlebar bag or pack. I have ran a tool box for 3 seasons and over 2000 hard mountain miles and have never had a box come open or crack/break. I cant say that about any other form of tunnel storage I have had. Not for everybody, but has been perfect for me.

You fit the Mountain Addiction cans on with the small polaris bag? Can you give us a better pic of that?

all i have handy for a pic. lemme see if i can find a better pic. yes small burandt bag (has my shovel in it, thats why its bulging) and mountain addiction cans fit easy.

Don't use a fuel caddy, but for a tunnel bag I went with a waterproof hard gun case made by Plano.

Worked perfectly and a lot cheaper than other options. I carry all my survival gear in it and items that I want to absolutely stay dry. They also make a smaller one as well.

great tip for guys with snow bunjees. cut off the plastic loom. then you can curl that sucker up into a tiny ball. fits inside my sled solutions bag with tons of other stuff. no need to wrap it around stuff on the outside of the sled. have had mine like that for a couple years and still works perfect.
