Looking for Fox EvolR Pro reviews...Front & rear susp

I'm looking at the evols up front and in the rear. There must be alot of guy's running these by now. Let me know what you think.

I like mine on my 2013 163" I have the Evol R's on the front and an Evol R for the rear track shock. The front one is a spring shock. I have the complete Burandt suspension package.

Ditto.

They take a good 100-200 miles before the seals break in and then they really wake up (had some stiction issues before that). Air pressure settings are critical, I have some really good base settings now and I have yet to have anyone come close to catching me on the way back to the rig down the whooped out trails - you simply cannot do this with a stock suspension. I've dropped some pretty good cornices too, some to flat and the suspension does not bottom (when you know the settings) yet still remains supple over the small stuff. Super impressed. Now mind you, the valving on the Burandt package is different than what you get from Fox. Initially I wasn't too impressed (and even said you need coupling for this suspension to work well over moguled out trails) but I take that back 100% and will put my suspension up against all comers now that I have it dialed. For pulling steep chutes you just add a little more air to the rear main chamber and away you go (beauty is you really can fine tune according to conditions). Powder carving is awesome because you can set them up soft but progressive so the sled carves easily yet won't bounce out of sidehills over ruts or dive on you. Very VERY stoked with the Evol R's. Chris helped me with the setup and he admits he likes the R's nearly as much as the X's and the R's are what's on most of the sleds he rides. They'll also save you 2 lbs of weight over stock (not as much as I'd hoped but it's still 2 pounds!). If you're a real aggro rider I feel air shocks are superior because of the dramatic ramp up at the very end of the shock stroke which coil-overs simply can't reproduce (unless you go to a multi-rate spring setup and then they get real heavy). A really good set of coil-overs will ride smoother overall for the average rider tho so it depends on what you're after. The choice was obvious for me.

Anyone care to share their air #s?
So if you buy a set of evolr's from Carl's cycle, they are valved differently then Burandts ? :-(

80 PSI main chamber and 180 psi in evol chamber i think i run in the front. Got raptors in the back :)

Hey Ken,

I have the full Carls Setup in a 2011 and the full Holz upgrade setup in a 2012. I prefer the Carls Float setup even though I traditionally prefer coil spring shocks over air shocks.

I would recommend the Carl's setup. The upside is when you upgrade your sled you can put the stockers back on and sell the Carl's stuff privately.

I put the 2011 setup on my 2013 before selling the 2011. Needed new eyes for 2013 but that was simple enough. It works very well.

Try 115/60 in the fronts and 175/140 in the rear. I'm 210 plus gear and that's what works best for me.

2 seasons on Carl's setup, better than stock in all regards, especially if you like to tune, you really need to diddle to find your optimum. Worth the ~$1800 US? Was to me, but, still alotta jing. I am moving them to a 14. 110/55 in front, 150/128 in rear, normally. Run more in rear if the snow is hard, too much ski lift on hills. ~210lbs fully geared.

thanks guy's. They are out of the F.t. shocks till next year, so i'll be running he stocker this spring. I was thinking of maybe sending it to holtz for a revalve as an option.
Quite a spread on psi #'s?
Keep'm coming. I'll avreage out all your #'s for my first try.:face-icon-small-win

Rebound for the track-shock or same for the front also?

I have stock shocks in the track and Evol R front suspension.
Have only had them for a couple of days so havn´t ride so long with them. I tried 55psi in Main and 125psi in Evol-chamber. 6 clicks out on the rebound.

Have all you guys removed the swaybar?

I´m satisfied with them but have to try change settings and try further to see what I like most. Must also try to taking the swaybar on/off and see what I like best.

Same BUT I have Burandt's high flo pistons and valving so that would probably be too slow for stock Fox's. Carl's and Holz recommend 9 clicks so I'm guessing they don't have the high flo pistons.

I've spent nearly a season without the stabilizer bar and went back to having it in - Pro needs it unless you go to overly stiff front air pressures (or springs). Most top riders (Chris included) are leaving them in as well as they offer more control when the sidehilling gets really tricky.

Just looked on the instructions for my Carls skidkit, seems like its the same instructions as for the fronts, and there they recommend 9 clicks front and in the skid.

rock on!

edit: Havent installed the shocks yet, will do it tomorrow.

Just so we are on the same page here, click-count from when the rebound screw in its most screwed in position or? And each click clockwise is making rebound slower?

From the instructions, "Set rebound clicker at 9 clicks out....for a plusher ride 11 clicks out"
I maxed the clicker, then I reduced it 9 clicks. Each click clockwise is making the rebound faster. Please correct me if I´m wrong :)

If looking at the picture of the link, slow-arrow is turning clockwise.
But counting clicks from "max in" is probably what to do, or?

"A rule of thumb is that rebound should be as fast as possible without kicking back or feeling bouncy. For slower rebound, turn the rebound adjuster knob clockwise. For faster rebound, turn the rebound adjuster knob counter-clockwise."

I don´t have that red knob on my shock, but I counted clicks from "max". I guess 9 clicks out from max (clockwise) is a good starting point.

Off the wall question. For a 250 lb. rider with 45 pounds of gear (5 gallons of gas plus assorted supplies) on the back, would I be better off springing and valving my stock Assault shocks or might these air shocks be better for adjustability with varying loads?

Correct. You screw in the red knobs all the way then count the clicks as you turn them out. The more you turn out, the faster the shock reacts/extends after a hit.
