I'm from Chicago area. Get out west 2 or 3 times a year. Usually Wolf Creek, Snowyies or Jackson Hole. Would like to try Rabbit Ears this year. I am looking for specific directions to popular parking areas. I saw something about Muddy Creek parking area? How do I find that or other popular parking areas? Hwy and road numbers would be great. Thanks

I had the same questions as you did last year when I made my first trip to Rabbit Ears, so you can trust me when I say it'll be impossible to miss. Have fun and post some pics!

Like stated, drive North out of Kremmling about 30-35 minutes until you see some jacka$$ from the Midwest blocking all lanes of US 40 while attempting to park their 92ft truck/trailer combo that has a total of 3 sleds in it (one is a mini z of course)...

Now ya'll from the Midwest, calm your a$$ down cause I used to be one of you...so that gives me the right to call you jacka$$es:)

Once you see the above, you know you've located the once sacred Rabbit Ears riding area:face-icon-small-coo

Nicely put tracks! Haha. I'll be there in February with compact truck and sled deck (with 2 sleds on it) I'm supposed to park sideways, the opposite of everyone else right? :-)

basically just leave your truck and trailer parked at your motel in kremmling and unload there, thats about the only f*cking place to get parking up there anymore these days. Ask the yocals, they will tell you all about it.

We Iowans take 80 to Laramie, Wyoming, then head SW and stay in Walden. It is about 20 miles to Muddy Creek parking lot. Less stressful route and parking lot.

Muddy creek is the place to park cant miss it. get there early fills up early and quick, but if your camping place to be!!! great riding to the south and north, buff pass is an easy 15 mile trail ride to the north or a 30 mile ride if you like to boondock and really ride Think about steamboat lake too higher elevation and bad *** riding not nearly as crowded. If your diving that far hit both up. riding/sleding/camping rabbit ears. riding/sleding/lodge steamboat lake

"Once Sacred" is right!
I've been riding RE for 16 years and I personally blame local poser, Chris burandt for the huge increase in RE popularity. It was around the time cb started his illegal ( un-licensed ) burandts backcountry adventure circus that there was a massive increase in visitors at RE. As soon as he was on tv bragging about RE and showing people how to, ride a snowmobile whilst looking like they are pushing a skateboard ,RE became over crowded! Ironically he now is giving tours at cotton wood. Thanks Chris!

Dude if you're really really lucky there might be zero parking AND a guy who took up a bunch of space with a makeshift propane powered hot tub set up in the middle of the parking lot at Muddy Creek. I don't believe the hot tub ever functioned as hoped. But it was a solid attempt.
I don't understand why Muddy Creek is so desirable. Maybe because of hot tubs. There are other places to park and unload. The drunkest people are at Muddy Creek though, so they can supervise the Mini Z riding in the open area adjacent to it. I've seen a pretty decent sh-t show up there a time or two.

someone should give him directions to the buffalo pass parking lot, just to piss off the guy who started that thread to whine about people parking in that lot. Better yet someone should give him directions to that guys house so he can park in his driveway. :welcome:

Employ this simple trick to avoid all parking issues at Rabit Ears Pass

Stay at Wild Skies' secluded cabin rentals 90 minutes SW of Rabbit Ears. As featured in the December issue of Snowest (yes the one on the newstands right now) Easy to get to, loads of parking and usually you are the only one there enjoying the same if not better levels of snow, except it is all untracked. This season we have had over 12 feet of snowfall with five of it arriving over the last week.

The scenery is spectacular (can see Steamboat Springs, Ski Resort from here) including views of the Flat Tops that usually only snowmobilers get to see because there is over 230,000 acres of terrain to ride with elevations ranging from 8200-12,500 feet.

This weekend is still available if anyone is interested (Sat and Sun Dec 27 & 28 checking out on Monday Morning Dec 29th). Also have Martin Luther King Weekend and President's Day Weekend available.

Here is a link to the December issue of SnoWest Magazine where our location is featured.
