lookin for a sled

King Cats are great sleds but not for someone his size/weight. Pick up something lighter in the 600/700 range, RMK, Summit, maybe an 05 M6 possibly.

My kid has been riding one since he was 14. First an 03 900 159 then upgraded to an 05 kk.
I agree with you it a lot of sled but at today's prices it's also a lot of bang for the buck. Probably one of the best deals going on used sleds and they are in his price range. Plus he won't out grow it for years to come!
Another good option is the 800 in the same 04 chassis but the 900's are just so plentiful and in stock form only 10hp more.

i think i will stick with the 6 or 700's for now the power of the 900 would be nice but i want to learn to do mor technical climbs and i don't know if i would be able to thow around a 900 as much as i would like to plus getting it unstuck would not be very nice.

thanks

I like this thread. It's finally not a "what sled should I have Daddy buy me this winter" thread. Congrats kid for working your way up on your own. I agree with the 03/04/05 RMK 600. The 660 kit really wakes this motor up, and it will run with some of the stock 800s out there. You'd always have the option of buying a built 660 and then selling the 600 motor down the line. My buddy did this and it was only a few hundred dollars for him to upgrade. That way you can spend a little more now, and have a great sled for many years to come.

My very first thought reading this was that an older 600 RMK would be just perfect. The Edge Chassis is really good even compared to the new sleds and the 600s are good solid motors from everything I have heard. For being 112 lbs, I think anything more than that would probably kick your arse in the weight department.

So I would suggest looking for an older Polaris Edge 600 with a 144 track, should be all the sled you would need for now and there are lots of aftermarket parts out there for it.

Keep an eye out in the swap meet section on here and on craigslist, I have bought from both and been very happy each time, just remember to look every day, there's always new stuff going up:beer;

Happy Sledding:cool:

Sounds like an upgrade to little newer 600 would be the ticket. If you are serious contact WYOPDRSQRL or PM me. He has one up for grabs. It was his wife's sled and she just got a new one. Good shape, runs well, taken care of. In your $$$$$ range.

You need to get what you are comfortiable with and what you believe you can handle.
It worked out for my son. Wasn't planning on putting him on a 900 at 14 just ended up with an extra one thru a horse trade. Thought we would try it and it worked out nicely. He got a job and bought the 05kk himself which he still rides.
Good luck.

hey i was just wondering cause you guys think i should get a polaris 600 i wanted to know what you guys think of an 01 to 03 ski doo 6-700 i have seen a few around in the papers and want to know what you think.

i am 120lbs. and i ride my bro's '01 RMK 800 144'' every now and then, and it's easy to throw around and not too bad to dig out.

so i suggest that^ (cheap upgrade) or an Edge 600-800 144''+ track
for the money, you'll be happy for a couple years untill you can afford something newer (like an M-series or poo dragon or doo Rev...etc.)

I also had a 2001 500 mc. Loved that thing. But I got bigger and needed to up grade. I went to a 2002 mc 800 w/151. Another great sled. I think for your weight and price range, I would look for a 2002 600 w/144 mc. I am a little bias toward AC manly cause they are EFI and it just makes things easier. If it where me I wouldnt worry to much about modding it to much, or what ever you buy, cause you are still growning and so arent your skills. So, you are goin to want to upgrade again. Use that mod money to help you get into a more up to date rider foward chassie. Just my $.02
