I am 16 5'7" and 112#'s i have an 01 MC 500 that is getting a little old it has been a good sled but i want something bigger and newer i would like some help deciding on what would be a good sled i don't want to stay with this sled because it seems as if it would take alot to mod this sled out and i was wondering what would be a good sled for some one like me. if you have some advice on how to mod out my 500 i am all ears but i really want a new sled. anything helps.

thanks

Where do you ride?
What type of riding do you do?
What is the budget you have?
Do you have a preference for manufacturer?

no preference i live in dillon which is all around the hillclimbing and i love it. my price range right now is around 2000 but soon as i sell my old sled and a couple dirt bikes i could afford up to 3500 i wouldn't mind riding an older mod sled as long as it is solid and has some light weight mods on it or upgraded parts.

Well, I would recommed you to a Skidoo rev? but jezze?? i don't know because your not going to be able to afford it, there easy sled's to whip around? but maybe you can get your hand's on a Skidoo Summit? 1998 1999? maybe????? i don't know bud? but i recommed a skidoo for sure durable light and powerfull all at once.

hope this help's!

Jonny

Im sorry to say but, for the type of cash your looking to spend you may just want to stick with modding you existing sled. For 3500 your really not gunna get much of a newer mountain sled than you already have. Maybe if your willing to spend $4000-4500 you may be able to pick up a 2001-2003 but, im not too sure. Arctic Cat King Cats or 1M's are good sleds or Ski-doo summits are also good pics and you probably could find one for some what close to what you wanna spend. Or you could take the $3500 and put a big bore in you sled and maybe some N2O and a good clutch kit or you could just tough it out for another season, sell your sled and save some money for next season to buy an nicer sleigh. But, its all up to you.:)

3500 will get you an 01 or there about.
For 3500 you can get an 01 800 RMK 151. That was a great sled (just watch the crank run out and clutches). I put 6k miles on my old one and never had a hic up in it.

Scroll down to there SNO section. THese are used prices and will give you an idea of what you are looking at for year, type and price.

Even moving up to a 600 would be a big improvement over the 500. I (and wife) rode 01 MC 600 and 03 MC 600 for a number of years and went about anywhere we wanted to. Dont know if your $ would get a good used M7 but that would really make a difference. With your size and weight you dont need a huge hp sled. IMHO.

ya i was thinken about getten a 600 but if i did i wouldn't want to go any older than an 03. do you guys have any advice on how i could mod out my 500.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the 500. I would sell it and try to go newer with a 600 or 700. Again just my .02 :beer;

thats what i was thinken i have been tryin to sell it had have some nibbles but noone real interested.

Try sledswap.com. It's free and I had alot of interested people from my ad on there.

What he said, some older 800 RMK's will still give any new sleds a good run for there money, and you won't have to spend the money.

My buddy just bought a 2003 800 RMK with 1000 miles on it for $3500. Crank and piston problems make me a little nervous about them though.

Ya know, thinking about it.
Heres another option that will get you into a better sled for cheaper.

get an 03/04 600 RMK.
Reason.
First off, it was a rock solid sled.
Second, it is big time moddible. They make all kinds of engine kits for it that will seriously wake that sled up. 660, 685 kits being the premere kits out there.

That would allow you to get a pretty good sled for cheaper and leave you lots of room for growth. It won't be the monster killer up front, but you can make it one with a little time and money.

Yeah this makes alot of sense. And it would be a big improvement over the 500 even stock!

that sounds like a good idea do you know of anyone who has one for sale?

unfortunetly no, I don't.
However, put up a post in the montana section, check the sales area on this site and hit the phone book. Call every dealer in your area. If you go thru a dealer, see if they will give you some kind of warrenty.

Go into the arctic swap meet section and start throwing $3500 offers on 04 king cat's with less than 2000 miles. Someone will take your money. You will get a rock solid reliable sled with tons of power.
Just found one for a buddy with lots of nice extras, floats, slp pipe, boss seat, extreem track and 800 miles for $3600.
Stay away from the 03's, tunnels crack.

King Cats are great sleds but not for someone his size/weight. Pick up something lighter in the 600/700 range, RMK, Summit, maybe an 05 M6 possibly.
