Long milage 800 CFI?

Well i guess i should have kept my big mouth shut on how good my sled was running, today with just under 2000 miles it the PTO side piston let go, i pulled the exhaust valve and looked in and its all scored, only 30 lbs compression on that cylinder, it still runs but in limp mode. Now should one get this fixed under warrenty or spend the money and fix it right and buy the "FIX"...:face-icon-small-dis

Let warranty fix it wrong, take your chances and get 2000 more miles.

Or "fix it" and ride in confidence and be willing to sell the sled to a buddy in a few years.

*that is if in fact the fix really is "the fix"

If it was mine I would probably get it fixed under warranty and then install the fix it kit from mtntk/pms that way Polaris can pay for the new jug and you can hold on to the new/old pistons. In my opinion my sled has never run so good.

1825 miles, slp y-pipe,single pipe and can... right from new, had the hot spot first 400miles but ran through it, always rode it like a dirt bike on and off the throttle and have not had an issue, took it in for updates and mechanic check pistons and said they were the best he had seen, oh and always let it warm to 100 before take off.... once off warranty will probably do the fix also...

Yup use that warranty up. Otherwise Polaris would think there's one less failure out there. Once the warranty is up throw in some weisco's. Maybe by then we'll have more of a idea whether the "fix" is just that.

I gonna take this one in for warrenty i guess, going to the dealer this morning to see what they say, even with the factory poo parts it should make it through the rest of the season... i hope

let her warm to 100 degrees always, mix 1 pint of oil in the tank every time you gasser up, have your buddy lift the track up and give the engine, clutches, track 20 seconds of rotating....

Was about to brag last friday...

I have 3400 miles (09 D8), update at 1600 and just got back from West Yellowstone, where the sled ran flawlessly (as it should), and my dad's 09 Assault 2000 miles was acting a little weird (thought electrical) and burned a cylinder; he had had trouble with the detonation light and retard since new. He was told that the warrantee was over on December 30 2010??? Polaris let down a 6+ Polaris sled guy (Guess they already have got their money out of him???).

This weekend I went on a short trails scouting ride to look for the big ride place Sunday when I pulled up to the garage and shut it down smelled antifreeze and it was spraying out of the head. Hopefully it is just a blown head gasket, but with the reputation I am not confident about taking it into the backcountry. And that is a bad situation; that is why I ride.

Anyway my sled has ran great (3400), did have the volt reg and ECU go out last season, and was warrantee and the Wire Harness replaced, but it still ran fine to get it home with the display out. Just worried about what to do going forward, spend $1000 - $2000 on fixes, fuel controllers, heads, etc... From reading all these posts I have been on borrowed time for a while now. $12k + $1000 in rebuilds a season and lost precious ride time, that can't be really what we need to do?

From: “Really needing to hear some good news from Polaris soon”

1700 before I sold it last spring to get the Pro. Only problem I had was a bad pipe sensor that Polaris replaced. I always warm up, blip the throttle as much as possible, use the scratchers on the hard pack and always ran AMS oil.

1600 trouble free miles on 2010 d8 until two days ago. Looks like I need a new voltage regulator. Hope it is not sign of things to come.

2010 Assault 900 miles, gizmo, ice scratchers, april flash, only issues so far were extreme oil consumption and a failed egt sensor, ran well after april flash for about 300 miles, now it has no full throttle/huge bog.. runs ok under half throttle, going to dealer today...

bought my 09 d8 from a riding buddy he rode it 1400+ not one problem updated it sold it to me with 1600+ i piped it and pcV 200 miles running good
hopfully :face-icon-small-win i'm not gonna say it:face-icon-small-dis

by the way i really appreciate all the great info from you all
but every time i read a "burned down" post i get more and more nervous
petty soon i wont be able to take it out at all :face-icon-small-sho

but then i guess it wont blow up :face-icon-small-win
damned if you do damned if you don't

1400 miles on my 08 d8 original setup, did update, 400 miles and broke a skirt and grenaded, new motor put on pcv and 800 more miles, good so far, gonna do the fix before next season

From earlier post... "This weekend I went on a short trails scouting ride to look for the big ride place Sunday when I pulled up to the garage and shut it down smelled antifreeze and it was spraying out of the head. Hopefully it is just a blown head gasket"

So my leaky head was just a pinhole in the small coolant hose coming off the bottom of the coolant reservoir spraying a fine stream onto the block looking like it was coming from the head. The hole was caused by the throttle cable coming loose and rubbing. The loose throttle cable can cause insufficient oiling as the cable splits and also controls the oil. Got new hose and adjusted the throttle cable. All good 3500 miles.

with the oio consumption your engine should be good, fair trade off

2010 D8 163 Bought brand new put slp ypipe pipe and can on brand new. 535 miles now and runs like a dream. I let it warm up and ride it like I stole it.
