Local Gov generating revenue???

So California is in a world of hurt with their debt/income ratio, and Nevada is just 1 step behind them.

So one good way to generate revenue is to pull as many people over and write as many tickets as you can.

I have to admit, I've been pulled over 2 times this last month, 1: not completely stopping at a stop sign, HWY Patrol was stopped and out of his car 50 yards up from the sign, and motions for me to pull over (he was pulling over 1 car after another for running the stop sign) Says he has a camera setup in his car and wrote me a ticket.

2: Got pulled over for speeding through town, driving right next to another truck, hwy patrol pulls out from a parking lot and by this time the truck I was next to overtook me, hp drives past me and pulls the truck over, then sticks her hand out the window and signals for me to pull over, I was 100 yds behind the her when she pulled the other truck over.

Never-the-less, for the most part, people have slowed down with their driving as they are trying to save on fuel.

My point is, eventually these people are going to get laid off, as the budgets are shot. I see hwy patrol, and sheriff cars EVERYWHERE now looking for speeders, and drivers breaking the law.
The commercials now say, WE ARE CRACKING DOWN ON SPEEDERS. There is no longer any warnings given, you get a ticket no matter what. People are already in a pinch with the rising costs of essentials, do they really have the monies to be paying $100 tickets.

Are you seeing the same thing in your county/state? How do you feel about that?

No budget problems here in Wyo. Not taking credit for it, but I'll enjoy it while I can. Have only had trouble with traffic cops in certain localities, for the most part they use reason and common sense.

Honestly?? You probably won't like this 'cause it doesn't support your theory, but most, if not all, ticket fines, etc, go into a general fund, so to speak. The Departments never see a penny.

And really, cops could really care less about the revenue generated from issuing an NOI.

Here's some really boring stuff I pulled off the web. Texas is the spot.

Quote:

The first $78 of every traffic ticket issued by and within Texas cities goes straight to fund state government. This $78 in fees is collected before a city may retain any money at all to offset the costs of paying the police and court system that make the traffic enforcement possible in the first place. Obviously, the more municipal court revenue that is remitted to the state, the less will be available for city coffers.

Now add to that, Court Fines only add up to 3.87% of the budget shown (a chart they whipped out) which includes ALL fines levied, not just traffic. And we all know how efficient government is.. if the State is getting $78 for each infraction, how far does anyone actually think that goes? I've got a news flash for you all: Courts are wasteful, just like most bureaucracies. The remaining amount goes to cover the local costs: local courts and prosecutions, court clerks, recording equipment, security for dim whits and bottle water to keep everyone awake.

Scam..?? No way. To much effort for the average POPO...:):beer;

And that is usually because they are BORED...

Have you thought about obeying traffic laws, then you don't have to worry about it.:eek:

Besides tickets do not generate money for the "economy". In the state of Wyoming a percentage of fine amounts are used to fund the operaton of the court and the rest of the dollars from the tickets go to the school district.

The police have to justify their jobs somehow, and in the case of hwy patrol it is by writing tickets (anybody that tells you that a cop doesn't have a ticket quota is a cop). Revenue whether it goes to the police force, judicial, roads, schools still needs to come in, and if their is a budget crisis, like in the mentioned states, then the higher ups (like we're seeing around here) are telling the officers to write more tickets.

You keep telling yourself that bud, you are completely off base and dead wrong.

Repeating that same train of thought over and over don't make it true. The numbers just don't add up.

Let's put it another way: The more tickets they write, the more the system eats up. It does NOT generate any revenue of any significance.

Quota?? LOL, you watch to much TV. Traffic cops in Seattle are expected to write about 10 tickets a day (in a regular, boring shift). Dude, that's like 40 minutes worth of hard work if they hurried. Give me a friggin break... Be GLAD they don't fill their shift actually writing tickets. Patrol writes one..if they so desire.

But, what do I know...:rolleyes::rolleyes::beer;

I think its just because cops suck and it gives them something to do between donut breaks. Its almost never the veteran cop writting traffic tickets its usually the rookie tough guy.

You keep telling yourself all of that. Whatever makes you feel better. Maybe look at your actions to get you in trouble with the cops in the first place........

Cops are awsome drivers cause you rarly see them gettin a ticket!!!:rolleyes:

Come on you gotta admit when a rookie first gets out of the academy they tend to be a bit "more aggresive" than sarg.

I don't know why anyone would even want the job???? {got my own ideas on that one}

Please don't shoot my dog I'm jus sayin.

No tickets or trouble of any kind for decades ! You keep kissing up to the pigs and maybe someday they will give you one of those little plastic badges !:devil:

A few of you must of had dreams of becoming a policeman and those dreams were shattered for some reason. Guessing physical or mental reasons...........Now you boys are just bitter and like to bash cops because it makes you feel better in some messed up way.:eek:

There is nothing wrong with questioning authority, although it should be done in a less radical way than what you display. You just come across as an angry little nutjob that seems to have an ax to grind for some reason.
If proper grammar and spelling has anything to do with it, you are not in the category of the smart people!:eek:
