Little help with Shift Assist Installation

I just got a D & D Shift assist, the sealed kind, that didn't come with any installation instructions and I was wondering if you take any of the black stock washers out when you put it in or just leave them in and add pre load to the spring. will that cause it to wear prematuraly? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Only change is the single, black plastic washer against the clutch is removed and replaced with the Shift Assist. BTW the silver side of the Shift Assist goes toward the spring.

Good luck.

Any of the shift assist instructions I have say black side faces the spring. Also, I leave the black washer in place because with out it the roller pins can come out over the top of the shift assist bearing and jam the spring. Budd

I got a BDX shift assist and put it in with the black towards the spring.
Called BDX and they said to put the shiny side TOWARDS the spring, so I changed it. But I think it would work better with the black towards the spring......

I'm not familiar with the BDX version. I don't see it on their website.

I was a little surprised to receive two shift assist rings together in the same sealed pouch. Both are identical assemblies, each with the needle bearings. Not sure why there's two of them.
