Light bar for the truck

I have been thinking about adding a LED light bar to the truck. I have talked to a few people that have do it and they love them. The truck I would be putting it on would be 2001 F-250. I want to mount it in the front bumper or somewhere low so that I can use it while running down the road.

1. Who has done this?

2. What did you buy and from where?

3. where did you mount it?

4. Over all how well did it work?

5. Do you have any night picture without the headlight on?

1. Who has done this?
We have, not on that exact truck and model, but we have installed them on many trucks for sledders. Dodges, Ford's and a couple Chevys. But nothing from 2001.

2. What did you buy and from where?
We are a dealer for Rigid and a couple other companies so we supply them, and can get you what you would need. Whether that be just the bar and mounts, flat tabs that you can weld where you would like, or just more info.

3. where did you mount it?
Front of the pickup by bumper, either on a bull bar or some vehicles have strategic mounting kits designed for that exact make and model. Some grille mount kits out there too. Have seen numerous above the windshield kind of like a brow mount, but they make tons of noise. Even the guys selling the kits will tell you this.

4. Over all how well did it work?
Worked awesome, myself personally am running (2) 30" Rigid light bars on my mega cab. it is insanely bright. NEVER use them on highway or road use, just in the backwoods, or occasionally on side roads late late at night. I suppose you could probably use them on the highway at 3am if you could see for miles, but it is a good reason to get pulled over. They absolutely kill any other light out there for us. Rigid has been a strong backer for us as well. There are numerous companies out there that make lights, most of the entry level lights and companies popping up for economical prices will work ok for a little while but will eventually have serious issues and moisture in the housings. A warranty is only as good as the company standing behind it, a lot of new companies saying they have lifetime warranty, but if they go out of business in a year or two you are SOL, so buying a brand name for something like this that is an investment may be piece of mind unless your ok with taking chances. Only bad thing I can say about the lights is people want to steal them, use locking fasteners and even that won't help the people who really want them, stuff stoled all the time around here, cut the wires and bam.

5. Do you have any night picture without the headlight on?
I have a video that I can text you if you would like, not without the heads on but driving down the closed highway last week in a snow storm. PM me your number and I can shoot it to you.

I've got a '12 F150. I bought a cheap LED light and mounted behind the grille. I installed it with a 2-way switch and connected one side to the high-beam, center off, other side - manual on. My reason for this is that the fog lights go out when the high beams come on. This to me leaves a "hole" in the lighting in the zone close to the front of the truck and I wanted to fill that in without going overboard. I used to add lights to anything that had a battery so I'm no stranger to that. I would suggest not going too gonzo so you can use it more than just that 3 a.m. back-back-road driving, otherwise it is more for show. I did have some lights on a truck once that were so bright it lit up the highway reflectors for such a long way I couldn't tell if they were headlights coming at me so I was always shutting them off to verify. Behind the grille is also a theft deterrent.

light bars

I work for ASRC/Alyeska. the last couple years we have mounted may be 30 light bars on all types of pickups and haul road trucks. There is no comparison to the light force we used to run. We have been using Vision X from 20" bars to 50". Very higfh quality and very expensive. Fred

I have a 2012 1 ton Longhorn that I mounted a 20" Rigid on. There is a perfect size opening on the bottom of the bumper that fits the light perfect. The light is wired into my highbeams. I like the 20" because I can run it along with my high beams and it lights up the whole road for 4 or 5 powerpoles. I've put driving lights on all my trucks and I like this setup the best so far.

Light bars are ok, However Limitations on optic sizes leave light bars behind the curve when compared to the latest LED Aux lights.
Pay more and get less would be a good phrase. Other than the bling factor they are a huge waste of cash.
Also be aware of the many start up companies attempting to pass off Chinese made and engineered LED lights that look like the real McCoy but fall far short in both performance and reliability, Not to mention they violate patent laws. Where will you go when that cheap light fails?
Ill post some photos asap

Trish, you GOTTA post comparison pics with those lights on and off.

Honestly, a good place for point of reference is down a residential neighborhood so we can see how many blocks they reach. LOL
People post pics like that down a desolate highway and it doesn't give a very good point of reference.

Sorry Ive been a bit busy.
We could make a killing if we stooped to selling Chinese junk pirated from US manufactures while breaking Patten laws.
I get emails like this everyday. A lot of guys think they are going to make a killing selling these, They can mark them up 5-10X and offer you a turd, while calling it caviar. same light as posted above by momma. where will that vendor be when the cheap light fails?
Buy Quality buy once and you wont be sorry

Now for those shots I promised
These are round aux lights pulling 25 watts, one light can be made into several beam pattern and colors
The truck is at 600 ft the gate is about 950.

I haven't overridden these at near 100 mph No Other lights used.

Off Road Rider, while I admire your product, I'd ask you to think twice about dissing my vendor. Where will Speed Demon lighting be? Well, I can tell you, along with enjoying the light that I purchased, the speed demon representative is supporting organized snowmobiling here in our area. He's volunteered his time to support our local club, and is working with me on the Ride For Autism Awareness we're having in March, donating a portion of his profits to local organizations within our community that help support the families working with Autism.
Be proud of your product, but please don't bash mine. It certainly doesn't make me value your superior product more when you focus more on dissing other peoples products than enlightening us about the value of yours.
I like my light, I like the company I deal with. That is all. :)

I'd love to have one but the cost is just too high.

Facts are facts. Im sorry you took it wrong.
I am glad the seller is helping with local riding areas etc. That's something we have been doing for 10 years plus.
I did not bash your vendor, There name was never mentioned here by myself?? The statement was not directed at them in particular, but to all the vendors who think they will get rich quick selling copyrighted products.
I merely used the light you posted as an example. That's all.
That's particular light is a copy of a riged product, not one that we carry.
Now if it was..
Myself and our other lighting partners who play by the rules of patent law and free trade would go after any vendor etc who brings counterfeit product into the US or Canada.
Thank you
