I have been thinking about adding a LED light bar to the truck. I have talked to a few people that have do it and they love them. The truck I would be putting it on would be 2001 F-250. I want to mount it in the front bumper or somewhere low so that I can use it while running down the road.
1. Who has done this?
We have, not on that exact truck and model, but we have installed them on many trucks for sledders. Dodges, Ford's and a couple Chevys. But nothing from 2001.
2. What did you buy and from where?
We are a dealer for Rigid and a couple other companies so we supply them, and can get you what you would need. Whether that be just the bar and mounts, flat tabs that you can weld where you would like, or just more info.
3. where did you mount it?
Front of the pickup by bumper, either on a bull bar or some vehicles have strategic mounting kits designed for that exact make and model. Some grille mount kits out there too. Have seen numerous above the windshield kind of like a brow mount, but they make tons of noise. Even the guys selling the kits will tell you this.
4. Over all how well did it work?
Worked awesome, myself personally am running (2) 30" Rigid light bars on my mega cab. it is insanely bright. NEVER use them on highway or road use, just in the backwoods, or occasionally on side roads late late at night. I suppose you could probably use them on the highway at 3am if you could see for miles, but it is a good reason to get pulled over. They absolutely kill any other light out there for us. Rigid has been a strong backer for us as well. There are numerous companies out there that make lights, most of the entry level lights and companies popping up for economical prices will work ok for a little while but will eventually have serious issues and moisture in the housings. A warranty is only as good as the company standing behind it, a lot of new companies saying they have lifetime warranty, but if they go out of business in a year or two you are SOL, so buying a brand name for something like this that is an investment may be piece of mind unless your ok with taking chances. Only bad thing I can say about the lights is people want to steal them, use locking fasteners and even that won't help the people who really want them, stuff stoled all the time around here, cut the wires and bam.
5. Do you have any night picture without the headlight on?
I have a video that I can text you if you would like, not without the heads on but driving down the closed highway last week in a snow storm. PM me your number and I can shoot it to you.
