Hey, Just got a call from a friend who is up at Cisco saying four riders were life flighted out of Castle yesterday when a ledge they were on gave way. Does anyone know about this?

Happened at Devils Oven. 3 guys dropped off into something and they all got tangled up. They are Truckee locals that ride the area. I spoke with someone this afternoon that knows them; hopefully he gets on a gives better details than I did. Sounds like a cople of them were in bad shape......hope they recover well.

I just visited these guys in the hospital yesterday. the guy with the two broken legs was released today, the guy with the broken back just got out of ICU and should recover, the third guy is still in ICU with a ruptured spleen and broken arm.

This was just bad luck, The route they took is usually the easiest way into Devils Oven. We've all used this route many times, but this year with the different directions of the storms it didn't fill in the rock ledges like it usually does and instead made a wind drift on the landing. The bad part about it is that the ledge was at the bottom which is usually a smooth run out and can't be seen from the top and once they dropped in and were commited........there was no stopping.

This puts things into perspective. I know two of these guys and they are seasoned riders and this is literally their back yard. They ride here from his house. This humbling experience now makes me think twice obout dropping in on something I've done "a thousand times" with the ever changing snow coverage and condition.

Wow , I am sorry this happened.

I almost did something similar following "old" tracks a few rides ago.
Thank the Lord above I stopped about 5 feet from falling into a crevice more than 20 feet down.

Wow you just never know what is gonna happen with changing snow conditions.

I pray for their speedy and FULL recovery.

Some Lucky Guys !!

Thanks to all for pics and updates !!
Even though this was pretty ugly, it's GREAT that they are all alive and will make a full recovery. Thoughts and Prayers to all involved and wishing you all a speedy recovery. ;) :rose::rose::rose::rose:

I see CHP was there, did you have to use multiple helicopters? Normally CHP is way down on the list of being used is why I ask.
