i Had Far less snow on the side i put the heat tape on..

I'll keep you guys updated on how it goes..

Trial and error.. testing.

To see how lang it is going to hold up..

I think i can keep a extra 3 lbs of snow and ice off! !!

I think the small possible benefits are offset by it looking pretty red/green show....I don't think that little bit of snow is hampering anyone's riding ability.....IMHO

i've been wondering if someone made a cut out for the boards made of vinyl if this would help also. maybe you could try that and let us know:)

I used better boards for that.
But i did use carbon fibre vinyl to make my own tunnel wrap.
with those two additions. the sides have NO MORE Freezing to the sled, And I dont Have to kick my boards. I also made my own footwell plate, from black abs and pet screen

Again..

I am just looking at what works and what doesn't..

It's all trial and error..

Hey.. i know i wouldn't mind a lighter sled!! :)

Couple pounds here and there adds up quick!

looks like it works decent on the first try. will be interesting to see what different snow conditions produce. the area i'm most/more concerned about is on the top of the tunnel. a substantial amount of wet snow/ice always builds up between the heat exchangers. don't know how heat tape would effect the heat exchangers? probably not much since it is the top side. vinyl might work just as good? on one of my iq sleds i installed a thin layer of hdpe to the inside of the tunnel sides. after a season i decided it probably wasn't worth the effort for the limited effect it had.

I have a thought there. Sold my gas can rack before I even tried it on. Gonna make a cover of waterproof material with some simple attachments on the tunnel side. All to both store stuff and cover it so no snow is lying on the rear of my tunnel.

Just a concept for now tho.

PV,
you are correct vinyl will work. use two 3" strips down the top of tunnel

Above post..

Does it work??

I get a pile of Snow on the rear tunnel!!!

Yes it Works !
My sides do not stick , see pic below
have not done my tunnel top because of bags and rack
Napa probably sells some vinyl tape for cars and such :face-icon-small-hap
but I got mine at autozone. Sorry matt :face-icon-small-blu
they had 6" and 3" wide rolls.
Good luck, and definetly reccomend the vinyl

Where did you get all those kick a$$ stickers...?

It was my DIY wrap, the stickers came from every where
if you can zoom in some are rather funny, some are old school hot rod
too bad they are not all sponsors :D

funny thing is usually the first thing I take off all my stuff is the decals.

besides if one sticker is worth 5mph then this sucker is gonna haul a$$

I'd say Polaris should make a note of this and a change in production. On the "5 things to change on your PRO" thread I wrote center cooler.

The reason is to keep heat away from tunnel sides, as this melts snow that freezes up. The bigger picture here is you get ice on the rear above the suspension bracket and where your toes are.

Then what? Kicking it off = tunnel/running board damage! This sled is either built to light (did I just say that? lol) or just designed wrong.
I'm a Polaris guy, no doubt, but I've never heard about this kind of damage??

Currently I'm looking for vinyl wrap for my tunnel sides and some parts of my boards to prevent snow/ice buildup and the need to kick it of.
Really want to stay away from mods now so that Polaris cant void my warranty if it cracks up.

Great idea! Simple and cheap. Might do it this week if no vinyl is found soon.

Is this the kinda tape your using?

http://www.findtape.com/shop/product.aspx?id=140&setscreen=1&width=1680&height=815

They have rolls from 3/8" wide to 8" wide....even 48" wide...
$5.04 for 3" x 36 yards to $13.60 for 8" x 36 yards.

A lot cheaper than the $75 for ArcticFX's universal tunnel wrap, for those of us who prefer function over form.

How are you prepping the tunnel for this? What cleaners? Polishing/sanding first?

Any issues with pealing, tearing, or wearing yet?

I wonder how it would hold up inside/under the tunnel.
Or wrapping suspension components with it?
