Left handed throttle

5.00 star(s)
got the new gravity worx billet left and i like it great for lots of situations. I use it mostly on those slow crawl off camber sidehills along creeks and such. got into this nasty spot on the edge of a creek we went through it one by one, i'm a little guy and with some effort and finesse i made it through on my big tippy apex :face-icon-small-ton and right after me a guy rolled his brand spankin new dragon into the crick and sat there upside down in the creek bed. I'll be a ***** if that means riding another day and not wrecking my sled

Lefty's

I wont own another sled without a left hand throttle. I first put one on my new 01 sled, and every sled since, I've challenged many people that thought Lefty's were dumb, to follow me. And not one was able to get through certain terrain without getting stuck or in a bind. Like some have said, once you get used to having and using it. They become second nature. Yea I could ride without one, but I wouldnt get through the same things I do with one.

ive got a goldfinger and im a newB. bought it when i ordered my sled. im left handed and only 5' 3. use the left hand throttle all the time and have never accidently grabbed it thinking it was a brake.(still cant ride for sht though)

save yourself the trouble/money and practice low speed sidehilling. just on the trail or in your yard if there is room, practice tipping and riding it on hard ground at slow speeds. its free, and will improve riding skills at the same time.

lefty???

well if your worried bout grabbin at forty different levers. there is always CMX to help out with the center throttle on the mountain strap. it even feels natural. id like to see the excuse for runnin up your buddys rear then, oh i thought it was the emergency brake???

I Will be watchin you !!

I have a gravity-worx lefty installed, I leave the safety-lock pin inplace 95% of the time. Its priceless for the 5% of the time I need it..

Thanks for the Heads up Eric!! When we ride together I will Keep an eye out for ya!! Remember when I didnt latch the trailer hitch?? That trailer sure wanted inside the rig....LOL

Kevin No problem, could of done alot more damage to your rig, lessons learned for sure..

Don't bother with it, IMO they are a crutch, and once you get enough practice sidehilling, you won't use it anyways...
Seen many accidents, buddy loading sled into Gullwing Floe, grabs a whole lot of thottle instead of brake and parks into the back of the open hatch of my Armada!!! just missed me standing in front of the tail light!!
And another buddy slammed into me parked on the trail and bent my tunnel and rear cooler on my climber and destroyed his Rev A-arm...killed a day just a few miles from the trucks!!
I do have one buddy that's missing some fingers on throttle hand, he really enjoys his lefty and is heavily dependant on it...but he uses it so much he doesn't forget it's there like the rest of the crew.
Save some accidents and just learn to side hill/donut normally!! If you are missing some fingers then the Goldfinger is a nice product and i haven't seen any freeze up in our area (golden/revy).

there is a reason for in one finger grab on the goldfinger. on you right side you use you thumb for throttle and grab grips with you finggers. on the left sine you want to be able to grab the grips without pinning it. you have great control with just the one fing i use my middle. if you get thrown off ballance you dont accidently hit the gas. i only use it for double ups not sidehilling. mine has never froze the only sled ive had the throttle stuck was on a ski doo with only the stock regular right throttle
my two cents

1. If you grab your throttle instead of your brake you are a dumbazz.

2. I had one a while back and it worked fine all the time and I thought it was great until it stuck on me one day out of the blue and almost killed me. I tore it off immediately. (its about 20 clicks west of the subway in Island Park if anyone wants to buy it)

I wouldn't recommend one. They suck I would rather get stuck once or twice more per year than break my friggen leg due to it sticking.

Well MFATTY, you really started a Post this time. For a guy who goes any place he wants to without a lefty, you got everyone wound up!

Since only a couple knukleheads let this get under their skin, it was interesting to read everyone else's opinion!

See you on the mountain.

Have you guys ever tried mounting your left hand throttle on your mountian bar? Here are 3 good reasons to do it that way!

1. No grip space lost
2. You only use it when you need it!
3. Nobody mistakes it for the brake (I have a 13 Yr. old sister and I know what can happen)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you use your teather instead of tying it to your bars then you have nothing to worry about.

The lack of tether is the real culprit in MOST accidents involving a lefty. (Other than the guy grabbing it instead of the brake and rear-ending you)

I have never mistaken the lefty for the brake but I'm one of those guys who pays attention to what I'm doing.

I have had one for years, rarely use it and it has never froze up on me but I do regular maintenance on my sled and I don't leave it parked outside in the rain to let water into the cable.
Yes, I know that's not the only way water can get in there. If you keep a good quality light grease in there then water can't get into it.

If you think you might want one then get one but for God's sake USE YOUR DAM TETHER.
The sled in the vid would have been unharmed if he used his.

Video

that video was proof enough for me not to fool around with on of those. I would have to say that mounting a lefty on you mtn bar sounds a little silly.
