Hey who rides with one of these? Never rode with one and my wife thinks they are for pu55y's. Just think if its hard to side hill maybe you should be sticken to the trail. that just my 2cents

Lefty

They are more of a convenience than anything, i've had sleds with left hand throttles and i have always used them, currently i do not have one though, i've been in a situation where i was busting the trail and came to a spot where it had slid, and it was very helpful to be able to lean hard on the left side and have solid throttle control while hanging off of the left side of the running boards, other wise i would of ended off down in the bottom dodging big trees on the way down, but i'm sure your manly wife could of done it with her eyes closed.

23 years experience
05 m7 with cutler dragon motor 210hp 450lbs dry- ride it like u stole it

i also ride with one. i dont use it all the time but it there when i need it. also good for trail riding you can switch hand. less fatiuge.

are they worth the money

Hey didnt meen to start a bashing sight I worded this thread poorly!!!!!
anywas are the worth the coin who has a good kit for a good price

I have one sitting in my part's bin. Had it on the old gen2 but havent needed it on the D8 (yet). I was thinking of putting it on my wife's sled:D

My 01 had one, my 03 does not and i wish it did. Wifey loves the one on her 99 as well. Guys that have never used one knock them, guys that have used them like them. Student Driver makes the best kits available IMO.

If you have any sort of fab skills then I wouldn't buy a kit. They're super easy to do yourself. No offense to those that have them for sale but you can build one for half the price. Just go down to your local bicycle shop and pick up a bmx brake lever and enough brake cable to run across your bars. My dad and I put one on his edge and one my genII . It took us a couple of hours for each one and we were done.

I think the leftys are handy as a shirt pocket. I find myself reaching for it even when I'm on a sled that doesn't have one because its become second nature for me to grab it.
Just my .02

i always have them on my sled but just for doubling up for skiing. its a lot easier to control from the left side with it straight down than from the right side when you are hanging halfway off.

I have had the Goldfinger lefty on my last two sleds. Comes in real handy from time to time. Worth the money IMO!

Yep, won't ride without one. It's helped get me out of a jam on a lot of occasions! I use the gold finger.

Now for the Negative!!

I dont have one on my sled, and I probably will never have one! I have been hit from the rear by at least three people who thought they were hitting the brakes and actually pulled the lefty Throttle!!

Thats why I always check with who I am riding with and stay away from the ones who have leftY throttles.....

We have actually termed the accident as being " LEFTYD:mad: "

I am not trying to talk you out of one.... Just giving some input!!

I don’t understand? Why would having a throttle on the left side make you a pu55y. Don’t you already have one on the right side? Does that make you a ½ pu55y?

Only real men ride with no throttle at all.

I don't understand how people "accidently" hit the lefty instead of the brake?? That sounds totally ridiculous to me. If you can't figure out the brakes vs the throttle maybe you shouldn't be on a sled to begin with..

Most in our group has a left throttle. Never had any problems with grabbing a load of throttle when I really wanted the brake. The only time I've told somebody they couldn't ride with me was when they didn't have an avy beacon.

The people who grab the left throttle instead of the brake, do you have the same problem on the right side, hit the kill switch instead of the throttle?

I have SnoBunje's version of the lefty. I think it's called throttle logic.
It mounts OVER the top of your grip so it's not in the way.
VERY well built and comes disconnected in a flash if you let another person cruise your sled for a try.

I have built a few of my own from high quality BMX parts but nothing comes close to the quality of this throttle logic unit IMO.

My wife also USED TO have one but while we were coming back to the truck after a long day she pinned it off of a whoop and ejected herself off the back of the sled.
Actually it was pretty funny looking after I found out she was ok!

It's nice to have on long trips by way of boring roads or trails to give your right hand a break now and then and for those rare times when you just can't afford to put one more ounce of weight on the right side of the sled to avoid losing your sled down a nasty ravine.

Usually, in my experience, a guy who claims that they're "Gay" are only one "Man Kiss" away from certain domestic partnership anyway.:D:p

leftys

Had one on my sled, and agree it's "handy".
Been told "you don't know how to ride if you need a lefty" although the handy word always comes to mind. It does not get used often, but when it does, it's just handy.

I have never had a problem grabbing it rather than the brake; however, I have witnessed two occasions that were bad, one, a homemade set up stuck, and crashed into another rider causing lifetime damage to a hand, and other injuries. This case was due to poor manufacture job. The cable was not a good length, and connected to the primary cable. A raised handlebar caused the thing to pull open, and away it went. The second, was an instance where a guy jumped on his sled, rocked over too far, and hit the lefty with his knee and ran the sled into another standing in front of the sled. No damage; but could have been a serious incident. The gold-finger safety pin would have avoided both of these problems.

I have ran the "lefty's" brand on my current sled, and have had it freeze up often. I also have had the flipper break. They sent a new one no charge, but the freeze thing is always a problem. IT gets water in the cable, during warm weather, and rain early/late season, and then is not available to use. I also do not like the bellcrank attachment to the stock flipper. It uses a silly sheet metal screw that never stays tight, and the lever is always wriggling around. In my opinion, the gold-finger with it's SS sheet metal bracket to work the stock flipper is much better design.

Just my 3 cents.

The Lefty brand has frozen on me as well. Pulled it off and use the snobunje as mentioned above. I've had the goldfinger as-well, and another brand that I can't remeber at this time. The snobunje is bar far the best one on the market.
