Airflow actually drops when the valves open. If they open late, the airflow stays high (for a while)and the stock computer program drops fuel for the opening of the valves (drop in airflow). If the programming drops some fuel and the valves haven't opened....the infamous lean spot. I am getting my info from Dynotech, BTW.
Plugging the hoses will result in earlier opening, open to atmosphere will result in latter valve opening. Early valve opening may prevent the lean spot, but with a turbo the additional port timing will create a soft/dead spot in the power, or at least it did in my sled.
My Twisted sled that I bought from Shane Stanger has hoses open to atmosphere with stiffer and shimmed springs. I have hooked up the solenoid for a drop in low end power and even plugged the hoses for even softer and slower responding bottom end. I have a slight lean spot that is mostly compensated for with the single green light, but once past that spot I have total backshift and strong response when on and off the throttle.
Are most people running the ethanol wires hooked together? Mine are plugged together. I was wondering if you unhooked them for the richer ethanol fuel programming and then lean the yellow, the red, and the blue/green to compensate while allowing the green to remain a little richer to cover that lean exhaust valve opening? My green in on when using light throttle at the beginning of exhaust valve opening.
I hope my rambling makes some sense!
