Hitting up Leadville in about 3 weeks. Any advice for early season riding? Anybody ride there yet this year?

Not much info around here anymore?

Says they're grooming around Leadville on CSA, so that's a good sign.

Not far from Vail Pass, so you should be alright one way or another. Plus hopefully the snow tap will turn on during the 3 weeks.

Turqouise lake has miles of trails and is close to town as is the mining district. Camp hale area leads to vail pass(crowded but weekedays are ok)10 dollar fee per sled tho.
Piney lake area in vail has great riding and lots of groomed trails. I was riding pow up there yesterday(muddy pass)its an hr from leadville. Meadow mt is a small area near minturn and has a warming hut up top if its dumping. Its my local honey hole cause no one really goes there cept locals. lots of options and plenty of snow this year already. Keep an eye on the vail snow report and multiply x 2 for the riding areas near there and leadville
There, that should get u going.

I live in Leadville. We went out around the lake Saturday night, wasn't bad on the groomed trail, a couple bare spots. There's a small powder field off of the trail that was decent! Shoot me a message and I can show you around!

There is also Chalk just north of Leadville, should be nice up there!

Did a rode ride around Turquoise Lake Sunday was pretty thin off trail and not really worth the risk. Was by myself yesterday so I didn't go up Hagerman which might have more snow. If you go to Chalk Falls be careful in the early season lots of rocks up there to break stuff.

What do you think for parking this year at chalk? They going to plow any more than a turnaround do you think?

Parking there isn't the greatest. I don't expect it'll be much better this year. Let's just hope they plow the snow back further this year.

What dates are you riding?

Thanks a bunch for all the responses! We leave WI on the 11th and head West. Looks like we will need to chase some storms or hope we do. We are totally open to any area with decent base. Not much into big open terrain and prefer creek bottoms and trees. Any other suggestions are welcome!

If you are not set on Leadville I would look to go to Wolf Creek they seem to have the best base right now.

Greg reach out to Scott McGregor in your neck of the woods. He has a good buddy in Vail that might be able to point to you in the right direction.

Cheers

I know Scott well. I actually have a friend in Eagle Vail that we are hooking up with. Has been trying to get to know the area! I try to over research things a bit. LOL Long drive and just trying to pic a winner!

Check out this edit I did a few years back. Scott McGregor on camera. LOL. How do you know Scott?

Scott is my cousin. Have only been up to the UP once in the last couple years to ride, as I have been trying to go West when I have time. I like that video :)
