Latest WINTER FORECAST from NOAA for DEC-FEB 2016 !

Some of the weather forecasting seems very irresponsible, if they are wrong, 1 it will show that their science is junk and 2 they will have severely hurt the winter sports economy.

Most forecasts are good for 7 days or less and this Patricia storm happened so much sooner that right now forecasters are apologizing at how hard Patricia is hitting MEXICO.

They did not forecast and caution about how strong the winds and the size and magnitude the water surge is right now. So the coast where it hit did not completely evacuate including USA tourist.

As far as our snow season (as stated in other posts) no one knows what will happen when a 300 year drought cycle or the worst drought decade in 300 years meets the strongest EL NINO recorded in over 60 years ?

BRING IT ON!!

Looks like on RADAR / SATELLITE Colorado is getting some good snow with many mountain ranges greater than a foot. ASPEN area seems to have more than most.

Rain / snow starting WEDNESDAY 28 OCT thru first week of NOVEMBER.

MOST WESTERN STATE AREAS Up to and inch of rain and flurries to a foot of snow at 8500 feet. Coldest part of storm cycle at end.

Please check local forecast as this storm is all over the west coast from CALIFORNIA to New MExico with the most H2O on the WA - OR (4-7 inches h2o) area & 2nd IDAHO UPPER NORTH ... 2-3 inches h20

Standard thumbrule for snow at 24-28F 1 inch h20 a foot of snow >30f 1 to 8-10" ratio in the teens 1-20 fluff

As the calendar turns to November, a significant change in the weather pattern over the U.S. will lead to a pronounced split between winter cold and snow in the West and warmth more reminiscent of early fall in the East.

The polar jet stream will take a sharp southward nosedive in the West while simultaneously bulging northward into eastern Canada.

As November begins, this pattern will be flipped.

The jet stream will plunge into the West, ushering in colder air. Like spokes in a wheel, upper-level disturbances rotating through that jet stream dip will lift moist air and wring out valley rain and mountain snow much of the week ahead.

If you're already itching to hit the slopes to carve your first powder of the season, the forecast of significant snow in the Rockies and Wasatch in the week ahead ought to get your pulse racing, or drive you crazy if your favorite resort won't open yet.

There appears this morning 21 OCT , to be the
Here are the ingredients:possibility of a decent storm, sometime between next Wednesday and Halloween 28-31 OCT.

1.Typhoon Champi was located some 500Mi due south of Tokyo this morning
A. Over the next 5 days Champi will be totally extra tropical and merging with the westerly as it moves NE
2.A moderate trough will move off the Asian coast this Saturday AM and constructively phase with Champi over the following 24 hours building a strong ridge down stream on a longitude between the Dateline and the Hawaiian Islands.
3.That amplified trof deepens a new trof down stream over the East Pac tapping cold from the GOAK.
4.This eastern pacific trof entrains now Hurricane OLAF as a extra tropical storm which spins up the jet in the negative tilt trof’s SE quad. This builds an upper ridge over the pacific NW while the upper trof digs into California “”About”” next Thursday the 29th. This timing is subject to the scenario over the western pacific.
5.Climo wise, this will bring the possibility of our All Hallows eve storm, even through it may come a day or two sooner…..

STORM SEEMS TO BE HERE !!!

See lots of rain and little snow on radar. Cold part should be at the end of this wet system. Temps on average will drop 20F plus compared to the beginning of this wet system.

Here in Los Angeles high today is expected to be over 90F and in 2 days high will be 67F ! So you all up higher should be freezing most of the day after couple days of the initial storm hitting .... getting some snow !!! Cold front sweeping down the coast from BC.

Anybody getting snow?

Hyder alaska/ Stewart Bc appears to be getting some!!! Bigfish Bc told me he was in Stewart a few days ago and said there was enough for a road ride

Snow forecasted for Island Park this week! Hopefully it will be a foot or two! It's also snowing in the high country around Driggs, ID and Alpine, WY. I'd bet Togwotee is getting snowed on as well.

Computer models are declaring the high pressure ridge buildup off the coast of California for pass several years has moved south !!!

The past few seasons had this high pressure ridge prevented storms from hitting the states and dumped most of the water into the ocean before going east onto land.

Today the high pressure ridge is actually helping to bring moisture from the Equator setting a storm pattern every 7-10 days for the month of MOVEMBER !

Be advised weather forecasts are only good for about a week BUT you can see general trends which increases the likelihood of a pattern

Whistler area and Northern Idaho into the Kootenay are to get 6 plus inches of H2O equivalent.

I don't know where the snow level will be but I think it is safe to say areas will get many feet of snow in the next 5 days.
