Should have bike by end of week I would think. Then busy weekend of putting it together and testing. Hope to be in the mountains by next weekend.
Can't Wait...
Well just finished the final tune last weekend. We have had some issues and have been doing the process of elimination and found that we had a bad controller....
Kelly is awesome he has flown in 3 times to help me with the bike he is practically family now. Bike is amazing incredible power and torque I am trying to get out west and find some good snow to ride in. We were in the Black Hills of South Dakota last weekend and it was a little thin but was plenty good for testing.
I can't state enough how happy I am with the product and with the customer service from Kelly at KMS Performance. Try and find someone who is willing to fly in and tune your bike!!!!!
I will see if I have some pictures and post later......
If you come to the coast (Vancouver, BC) I'm sure we can get you out on the snow with other bikers, in decent conditions.. And you'll potentially be able to take some pre-orders on the Turbo kits.
why run a intercooler? my understanding is that a intercooler is there to cool off the air the turbo is sucking in making it more dense. but on a snowbike application the air is already cold. I can under stand it if you are going to use the bike year round.
The intercooler cools the air after the compressor half of the turbo setup has compressed it and caused it to increase in temperature. Hot intake air causes richer mixtures, detonation, less power, and less lusting by other riders.
As a broad rule of thumb with typical turbocharger efficiency a 7psi increase in boost pressure over ambient pressure will make the air coming out of the turbo, 150 degrees F hotter than ambient temperature. This hotter air is less dense and the hotter it is the more likely the engine will detonate. 14 pounds of boost could equal a 300 degree F temperature rise in air temp.
This temperature rise can cause heat soak in the engine resulting in all sorts of bad scenarios.
A good sized intercooler can bring the charge air temps back down close to ambient. You can then run more ignition retard can make more power at lower boost pressures.
