Kids Helmets

Where does everyone buy kids helmets? Our middle child is 2 and well if we are gonna teach her to wear a lid on sleds bikes and quads we better get her one. Right now she loves playing with her big sisters but that obviously won't work, they can't share.

So I'm looking for places to find a MX style lid on the cheaper side. I think I paid 50 bucks for my oldests a few years ago but that was at a snow show that is tits up now. I haven't found much for under 100 and the wife really wants to stay cheaper if possible.

You might try motosport they have some good deals sometimes on last years lids. Got a nice fly lid for my son last year 145 reg on sale for 78 bucks.

X, lids are tough to buy for kids, especially with out trying them on. Kids have the craziest heads. I've seen 2 year olds with bigger heads then most adults. Needless to say powerhouse(801-785-2244) in pleasant grove utah always has a huge selection of kids helmets. Most in the $39.99 to 49.99 range.
Moto style some with removable face guards, which really help with kids that may not like the closed in feeling.

I went to the local dealer and bought a HJC MX style for $75ish. Look for the youth model that has snap-in cheek pads. That way you can just buy the cheek pads for $10 as their head grows. Saves you money in the long run. Just make sure that the model you buy has interchangeable pads.

For the small kids - 4/5 years and under we used a full face hockey helmet with a balaclava under - regular helmets are way too heavy for their necks to support. From 5 to 7 we use the open face helmet with a lexan / polycarb visor as they are still light. From 8 on the kids are into MX helmets with goggles.

I was concerned about Jaymie's neck being able to support the helmet too so I took her and the helmet to my chiropractor to look at. He said to get her to wear the helmet gradually ie a couple of minutes each day to help her neck muscles develop and to gradually increase the amount of time she wears it. I asked about getting one of those neck support things and he said don't do it. It can cause the muscles to become dependent on the brace and not develop properly and the best course of action is to let the muscles build up on their own.
