Kevin Ward Jr killed from running ino the path of fellow racer.

All of the major media headlines infer that Tony killed this young man.

Had it been Dale Jr the headlines would read similar to this thread title.

That's the reason all in the pits are required to wear white, most of these races are at night and even with lights it's easy to miss someone without white or reflective on. Lost an old friend and customer in 2006 the same way at Elma, Wa. Fast Freddy Brownfield. He was out painting the starting line for the next event and was hit by a driver who decided to test his sprint car. At least he died doing what he loved. Swampy:face-icon-small-sad

NASCAR and other leagues need to start suspending/fining guys for these on track confrontation, chasing down cars on foot, helmet throwing etc. Start it at a 5 race suspension.

Happened under the yellow. Cars had slowed to 35 mph. Stewart was trying to paste him with dirt or swerve his way and chase him back up the track. Plain and simple. The black racing suit on a dimly lit track is complete BS. It will be incredible if Stewart has said anything to incriminate himself.

The blue car Sure swerved quickly like he didn't see him until he was close too. Sounds like the young kid has a temper, nicked named "smokey" even because of his childish temper. What was he gunna do? Get Stewart to stop his car, let him get out and whup is azz or what? Dumb, hotheaded, immature decision on the kids part. And if Stewart was Trying to give him some dirt and mis calculated, he was giving into the same tendencies. Both made a bad decision, the kid ended up paying dearly.

100% what happened. you are a complete idiot if you can't see that stewart swerved at him and hit the gas. look at the vid you dont have any problem seeing him from across the track. I wonder if there was any radio communication

I really do not think any on here have seen well enough to know if Tony tried to avoid him, or tried to "dust" him with dirt, or didn't see him until it was too late or whatever.
However only an idiot would believe he tried to actually hit him.
He may indeed share some of the blame for the tragedy.
But no matter how much any of you hate Tony or no matter what he has done on the track in the past, nobody can deny that Kevin Ward Jr shoulders most of the blame as he put himself near if not in harms way by 100% his own choosing.
He is dead & what a loss for his friends, fans & family.
However, Tony's life is forever changed & unless you have never made a mistake you have no place in judging his actions.

All are victims here.

I haven't seen where anyone said anywhere tony hit him on purpose or had intent to hit him. the race was under caution and everyone was running around the bottom except tony and the car in front off him. tony was a full car up the track from the guy in front of him. I would bet my new t3 that tony had been warned on the radio from his pit guys what was ahead of him

My point is that whatever Tony did (if anything) it did not contribute to the mishap as much as Mr Ward's actions did.
He should not have ran into the paths of passing cars, & we all know rules will be in place to forbid this behavior in the future. So in a way, Kevin may have saved the life of another racer in the future.

Wow your pretty sure of yourself, have you ever been strapped in a sprintcar rolling around a track at night??

This is auto racing for Big $$$$ were not at the local,go cart track these guys are Hauling A$$ if you've been to the track before you would know this....Driver error for getting out of his rig walking on to the track just to flip Stewart the bird. Bad choice tragic death next race is Sunday somewhere.

I don't race but follow sprint car racing locally fairly closely. I do not think I have ever been to a dirt track sprint car race where the driver and his crew have direct radio contact. some tracks have a one way communication from track officials to drivers for line up info, caution warning, etc. Maybe rather than everyone speculating or thinking they know what happened the media should find out for sure what the track had for communication and if there was any warning given to TS. Watching ESPN Sunday morning, their "Expert Race Analyst" Ricky Craven was so clueless on dirt track racing it was embarrassing to listen to. Unfortunate, avoidable incident is what I would call it.
