Ketchum area

My buddy and I are heading up to Ketchum over New Year's with our families and are looking for areas to play in. We have older trail sleds and young kids, so we're not looking for anything extreme.

We'll be staying at our church camp (Camp Sawtooth) just north of town along 75, near the Sawtooth National Rec Area headquarters. Our plan is to just pull the kids on a big tube out in a field and maybe some light trail exploration. I don't want to get anyone pissed at us, so can someone point out an area that would be friendly to us? Our goal is to be able to ride to the area instead of trailering up each time we want to go out. Your ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Bif.

Having a sled on a trailer in Ketchum will get some people there worked up(ski bums). Stop at the SNRA HQ to get trail info....trails are limited in that area but theres a parking area at Baker creek

The camp area is closed to sleds , however 5 mins north is the Baker creek snowmobile area... lots of what your looking for. In fact I believe the road into the camp is closed ... could be wrong.

I live in the area and there is lots of riding... a little late to reply to you but PM if you want some more info.

Had a great weekend and yes, we really pissed off some skiers. We pulled into the SNRA parking lot and were immediately accosted. Most were very nice and understanding, tho.

I had called ahead and got permission to ride into camp, but that didn't stop some x-country types from yelling at us. We weren't hot-dogging it, but rather, pulling small trailers with all our crap (9 people x 3 days), the 2mi trip into camp. Our camp director even got permission from his federal connections! Still, some people think they own the place.......

Indeed, we found out that area is off-limits to sleds. We were given the "ok" to let the kids play on the camp property, so they did just that. Lots of great powder, beautiful scenery, and good company. Couldn't ask for anything more. Well, being able to explore the area would have been nice!

LOTS of sled in the valley. They shouldn't be THAT strange to the locals.

Didn't say the locals would think seeing a sled would be strange....I said it willl get some people worked up. There are some skier types(DH,XC) that think their sport is pure and holy, their sh!t don't stink, and they let you know it.

True.

I used to live there.
Never had anyone say anything to me.
