Just bought 2007 M1000. What should I do?

I just purchased a 2007 M1000 with a little over 500 miles on it today, and I am wondering what are the necessities to do to this right now? I want it to run good and be reliable. I do want a can on it, thinking just precision but take recommendations. It looks like it had a programming update due to a Re-call notice as I see that rexburg motorsports did the upgrade and had a notice saying so.. Anyways.. Airbox mods, side-air mods, cans.. what do I need to do?

For what you NEED to do, change the diamond drive oil & that's about it.
For what is useful to do, venting is always good, flowrites in front of the clutch, side vents, etc.

For performance mods or weight savings, use the search function, there are a ton of threads on here for how to pull more power out of that motor or how to lose weight.

When did he do the update? The 08 update was horrible on the sleds that I dealt with it on, some folks didn't like the 09 update but I think it was a huge improvement over the first one. If it was done before last year you might want to bring it back to the dealer & have them do the new full update, that includes covers for the pv cables, a shield below the pipe and some other stuff.

Man, where to start. Its a long list. My best mods have been venting, clutching, gearing, and the Powerclaw track. Theres alot more, but these have been the most productive. Oh and get that thing on a diet:)

M1000

i very much agree with both these guys, especially the diamond drive oil. i lost a diamond drive a few rides after i got mine due to that...... vents always help, be careful about venting in the front depending on what intake you put in. sometimes in deep powder it will try to choke it out if you are going downhill and try to get back on the throttle. a pipe setup is always good(need a boondocker box), or just a can and y pipe. and of course like the other guy said put it on a diet. i am running the holz with a full pipe set up, and some clutching and i love it. hope this helps you out and good luck!

Do something with the rear suspension like the float kit AC sells. I went with a Timbersled, lost 25lbs and can adjust it so the front end to feel so dam heavy.

I have a speedworks single pipe, jaws can, a BD box, NGK AF gauge, vents in the stock air box. It rips, very happy.

Change the stock DD to the Diamond lite drive. Saves weight and is more durable.

I would run it and save your $$ for when you actually identify things you want to upgrade. The 07 is very reliable. Most add ons are marketing and don;t do much. Good setup is the most important.

Big things I would do for cheap/free:

1. DD oil
2. Clean and align clutches well,
3. Tighten all bolts
4. Lube the chassis
5. Move the front skid arm down to the lower hole in the chassis (to help the front heavy feel).
6. New belt if it is still running the original.
7. Ride it!

when I bought mine in 07, I couldnt figure out what it was lacking, so, new y pipe!!, still not impressed, heavyer wieghts in drive clutch, maybe pulled a little harder but not impressive, I felt like the motor was there but not going anywhare, messed with suspension trying to get some arm pull!!, didnt work. changed the track to a extreme 2.5 x 156 and BINGO, thats the pull a 1000 should have. after that I could tell when even a small change was good or bad, today in a drag race on nytrous against turbos, I am always there if not the winner, and I am not talking 800 turbos witch is almost always a win, but 1000 and 1200 too.

Two most important items IMO. First make sure you have the three tower clutch. I have seen many broken cranks around the 500- 1000 mile marks broke at the drive clutch due to an unballanced 4 tower clutch. Second get rid of that stock Diamond Drive with the mechanical reverse. They were also very problematic and will go out leaving you stranded with a locked up track in the middle of no where. Other than that they are a great sled. Ride it and mod to your ridding style.

I have only seen one DD go out and it was on a TM8, Just be nice to it and always make sure its in gear before you hammer on the throttle. I might be willing to trade my 3 post for a 4.

Shift assist
after market can/ I like the slp, just seems to keep the torque a little better,
PC track is the best upgrade to any sled without one.

Thanks for all the insight guys, I did a "flush" on my DD and then added oil, I was told that an HPS can is a real good can to through on there too, so I was going to go with that, and maybe see how well this track performs, but maybe go ahead and get that PowerClaw track just because all the good stuff i've heard about it. Thanks for the insight though guys.
