Jones Pass

Anyone ride Jones Pass? I was just up there the other day and it looked like it could be fun but I'm not sure about the wilderness restrictions. I'm just wondering because I never hear anything about it.

not for rookies

very technical, hi avy danger, dont even think of showing up without a beacon

What he said.

If you want to head up there look me up (unless you don't have avy gear & training, then stay home) I live there.

No happy gentle rolling hills, no fun trees, but if you like dropping cornices & climbing big aspects, Jones is fun.
Just depends on your type o' stupid.

Right on. I'll have to hold you to that come this winter. I just moved out here so haven't met anyone who rides yet. Yeah I have all the avy gear and some training but I will be taking avy courses as soon as they start up again. I'm very conscious of avy danger so I don't go to crazy but I do like to push the envelope a little once in a while.

I agree with what everyone is saying. There is no easy cruising up there. There are a lot of gnarly guys up there that do some crazy sh**. Just pick your day wisely, a low visiblility day can be a waste of time - most everything is above tree line.

WHAT?? Aw c'mon, low vis days at Jones are a blast... sitting, waiting for the weather to go away so we can ride:clock::rolleyes::clock::rolleyes::clock:

Why do you think I spent 400 hours on my place? Gotta have somewhere to go other than the truck!!

There are wilderness areas up there that you need to watch out for, they kindof cut the area in 1/2 depending on the snow conditions.

btw, burns, where did you move from?
Check out snoww1 (or snowww1) on here for avy training, Mike Duffy. He's a great teacher & has a strong snowmobile specific class that he teaches, good stuff.

Yup. Any given day, show up at Jones, you'll run into BCIL.

I rode there (first year on sleds) a fair bit this winter, without fail, he was there. I might've only seen his truck, but he's not kidding when he says "I live there."

I've only ridden Jones and Vail Pass - bought sleds for ski-lifts, I MUCH prefer Jones from a terrain standpoint. Comparatively little "safe" area, though; no matter where you are, there's something that can get you.

Feels something like a game of chess nearing the end. It is a toughish area for sled-skiing, but I got some good days in there (got skunked a couple of times with visibility and new snowfall, combine that with people who say "Sure, I can ride a snowmobile!" and wind up getting buried in the parking lot.....sigh). Like I'm one to talk; I learned a LOT this year (thanks to Kaleb, frankly), but I still suck - I just suck enough less that I can get the sled around in deep snow without getting stuck THAT frequently.

blah blah blah. JP is close, gets a lot of snow, has relatively little flat ground. I like it.
