Jobs in Steamboat area??

I'm looking to make the move from Fort Collins. I have a cabin about 45min from steamboat and need work for my wife and I. Can anyone help?? I've been my own boss for close to 18 years now and have to move on. Wife is a gov worker currently.

After looking in the town of Steamboat I'm not sure anyone could actually be able to live there and still eat! $$$$$

I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a little more info. Not a resume by any means ,but just throwing this out there.

Me- All aspecs of owning and operating my own business. 1st biz was lighting manufacture and sold after 15 years and 2nd biz Flooring retail and install selling to partner. Both inclueded everything from running equipment ,design ,computer , to doing sales(tradeshows) and the books.

Wife- Uuuuummmm I donoo? Program anylast for USDA.

Do you speak spanish? I could use some more drywallers at the new library!!:D:D:D

If you have the entrepreneurial spirit, I would think ther are many opportunities up here, it's a growing town that seems relatively isolated from the economy issues of the rest of the country. A good place to start something new.

Pretty sure I've heard people talk about a lack of cabinetry & flooring up here, many people going to the city for both.

a city boy's take on working in the mountains

I have worked for framing contractors for many years (office side). Over the years, we have framed many projects in the mountains including breck, vail, beaver crk and crested butte. We learned an important lesson early on: bring the crews from town. In fact, a lot of the other trades bring thier guys from town.

We used to try to hire locals, if we could find any looking for work. The ones we found proved to be expensive and incompotent. If they showed up for two weeks a row, we considered ourselves lucky. I think this is due to the fact that a lot of people go to the mountains to play, and work takes a back seat.

Mountain construction is plentiful right now. All of the newly rich need vacation homes.

So, in my opinion, a floor and cabinet guy should do well in the mountains. I hope I havent offended anyone, I am only speaking from my experiences. I am by no means saying everyone in the mountains is lazy and incompotent(sp?)

I can't believe you said that about us being lazy, hey you wanna come up & ride tomorrow????:D nobody around here works ALL week do they?

This is why a competent person who can come into a town like this with prior experience in the field, I feel would do very well.

Commercial jobs are always going to be sourced on a larger, out of town scale, but for the homeowners looking to upgrade (everywhere right now) or build new, having a source locally would be a natural winner. Most folks would rather stay up here than go down to lumber liquidators or the like to figure out what type of flooring they want in the new house.

there are other jobs also, if you have a strong work ethic you've already got most of us beat.

This is what I was trying to say also. I didnt want to call everyone in the mountains lazy, thats why I put the last sentence in. I did not intend to disrespect anyone.

I do support a family, but some people might consider me lazy as I have not worked a friday in years.

Regarding tomorrow, I was considering hitting up Jones in the afternoon. Is that where you're headed?

Thats why some of us work in restaurants...:face-icon-small-win
doesnt sound like your into that kind of work, but if you can cut an onion and your desperate enough im sure i could put you to work in the best steakhouse in town:D

There is plenty of construction work in the town right now. Everything is getting bought, torn down, and rebuilt two to three times as big. I'm sure if you sent a resume to a flooring contractor up here you would have no problem getting a job. On another note yeah its really hard eating up there, I had a $35 per diem last year and upped it another $10 this year!!

Lots of positive feedback!

Backcountry No abla drywall!hehe

I'm thinking the drive over RE will be the biggest pain and hope that the two of us can carpool. Do you guys live in the boat or out of town (Oak creek, hayden,Kremling)?

Yea I used to work at Copper Mtn. and did the snowboard bum thing for a season and can understand that good help might be tough to find. How about offering dubie pay!hehe

Iceman which steakhouse? I'm always a sucker for a good steak.

Thanks for the pm's guys.

I missed the biggest snow year on record up there hope next will be just as good.

We open back up this friday nite... so come on down!
looks like some more snow in the forecast for the ears the next coupla days!

If you're a hard worker, committed, and honest, you can succeed at just about any job in the Steamboat area, although many are low pay compared to the cost of living. I built my own house, and had to hire many people as subcontractors to help. Most of them would never show up on time, leave early, never finish a job, ...promise the world and deliver squat. I heard almost every excuse in the book, with most excuses being "its a powder day". So there's a word of caution if you want to start your own business and will have to hire people to work for you. Also many of the business are closed on the weekend, never open on time, or close early ...it's almost as if their business is a hobby or a tax write-off.

Just curious, what's Comcast pay in Steamboat? Any cost of living adjustments? I see the Comcast guys that live in the area get to take their company rig home, that would be a big bonus with the way gas prices are.
