Jackson hill climbs

Going for my first time this year. Could some of you tell me the best way to watch? It's my girlfriend and I . We like to hike. Is it an option to hike up to the steep parts and watch there? Or do you have to pay and ride the lift? I hope not to be stuck at the bottom. Thanks for any hints you can give me to get the most out of this!!

Have you ever walked up a ski hill with packed snow on it? If I ever got the motivation to go up the hill to spectate, I'd pay to ride the chair lift.

They have 2 huge monitors at the bottom that will show you everything going on as the riders climb, but it would be cool to be right there, a few feet from the race course to watch them, especially from the 2nd catwalk on up towards the top.

Jackson Climbs

Ride the chair up and walk partway down to see the Sunday action. At the end walk back up and ride the chair down. Walking in snow for the distance required to see the real action is sure to upset the GF and as it turns out will not be beneficial to the relationship or your enjoyment of the experience:eyebrows:

It's a tough hike. To have a place to see you have to be right at the fence so you will need to get headed up early. I used to ride the chair lift up and watch on the hill. These days I take a comfortable camp chair and setup there I can see the big boards on Sunday for the finals. Saturday I will hit all the vendors, and look at the new sleds.

Lol, I've been up a lot worse than that including a bit of ice climbing. I've heard you basically need to buy a lift pass for the day. Is there truth to that, or can you just pay for the one ride? Also, wasn't even sure if you're still allowed to go up and watch closer to the top. Thanks!!

I was just asking as I've met some people that have watched the live feed, seen videos and pictures thinking, "what's the big deal, I can climb that", only to get humbled when they actually get to up the hill in person. That's one very steep and very nasty hill.

I don't really know how they charge for a ride.

I've hiked up to the first cat walk before. Doesn't look bad till you do it. The warm weather right now it's going to be nasty, post holing every step. The hill is deceiving it's a lot steeper than it looks from the bottom.

As the others have said, buy the chair ride up, it's minimal cost. Get up there early to get a good spot on the hill. If your feeling really energetic, get up even earlier and volunteer to on the hill crew, now that's where the action is!

don't hike back up just walk down the cat walk until your at the boundary fence and sit down on your azz and let gravity take you to the bottom. more fun than the ride up.

Hill

That hill is the perfect test of rider and machine as it just gets progressively steeper as you go up to the top. The last several hundred yards are really nasty and separate the field quickly.

Eddy hit it on the head, it's been two weeks now and I'm still getting chewed on daily. One gal claimed she nearly separated her shoulder from cartwheeling down the hill. She only cartwheeled like 200' as did several others, most walked away, one on stretcher by ski patrol (broke ribs when she whacked a tree at 30 MPH). A runaway coffee thermos nearly clocked another guy, would have been ugly.
