Jack Russels

Slim, one more sorta question. My wife stays at home, so very seldom would the dog be shut up for the day. At most maybe 3-4 hours while we are running errands? I know the info I've read so far says they need room to run, etc. So would the Jack be able to handle 3-4 hours Ok or would we be inviting trouble?

Okay, I love my Terriers, but I'm going to have to go with a "NO" on this one. Mine Have a good size run outback which helps them run off some of their energy but they can be "bad" little dogs when left to their own devices. I don't want to sway you away from what I believe to be great dogs, but I would like you to be informed so you are not unhappy and the dog doesn't end up in a rescue. I think the Terriers are better in pairs. They'll bug each other instead of everyone else..lol. One other thing. They dig, If you have a weakness in your fence perimeter, they will find it. Excavating little machines. Once again, these are just my experiences with them. Good luck.

We lock ours up in her kennel sometimes when were at work. She does fine even for 8 hours at a time. We have a Lab size kennel though for a 14 pound dog. I wouldn't recommend leaving a jack russell locked in a room or something until they're a couple years old. You won't have shoes, woodwork, or anything you can think of left. She's real good now that she's older. we usually leave her to roam the house when we're not home. once in a while she has an accident but I don't think they're accidents. She kinda likes to pay ya back if you scold her. She goes downstairs and pees somewhere to get ya back. Little chit. She's lazy when we are here but as soon as there's knock at the door she barks like mad and gets very hyper for about 10 minutes until she's annoyed the heck out of our company and then she'll settle down and be lazy again. Good for kids that are maybe 5 or older. She plays too rough for very little kids and they're scared of her cause of how she gets in their face and jumps all over them. All in all, I probably wouldn't get one again. It was a long time to get her potty trained. Ours is a short-hair and she sheds worse than anything I've seen.

My bro-in-law has this breed....its nuts, makes a trail in the backyard..he justs walks very fast and stays busy doing nothing. And he loves to jump and try to catch flys..hes older now and his coat hair feels and looks like a wire brush....no thanks, i love my lab:)
