Cold Spring Middle School is closed. But the child that is infected is at home recovering quite nicely. But what gets me is that they fail to mention the stats of the "normal" flu strain. 200k hospitalized every year and 36k die from it yearly.

Snowizard posted a few days ago about the flu scare back in the mid 70's and the vaccine caused more harm then good.

My sister in law is a Epidemialogist (sp) out in Washington State, I need to e-mail her and get her take on this.

I don't agree with the amount spent, but they have to do something about it, otherwise you will hear the other side of the story that they did nothing and let people die from it. Hopefully it will be a bunch of greenies infected with it, any way we can put this virus in granola?

According to the news, Obama praised Bush for stock piling 50 million Inert doses of the anti-biotic that would counter swine flue (and a couple others). All they have to do is activate it somehow. Don't know the specifics, but they were saying it would take a few days to activate the doses and get it shipped out.

I just don't see the justification for all the hype.
I do agree that they had to at least appear to be doing something or they risk a Katrina type accusation. However, Obama and his team seem to think the best way to do anything is to dramatize is and scare the chit outta everyone.

Haha it's working! I made a apt with my dentist today & could not get in untill next wed. I get a call just before lunch & they can get me in @ 1:30 today. Some guy was scared about the flu & canceled his cleaning apt

My local news last night had a store in Sioux Falls, SD that had on their billboard thing.."swine flu masks now available". WTF?????? What next, full on chemical suits to protect us from the rain?? I realize people are dying from this, and that is sad, but I think this has become more than it really needs to be.
