It's about time...If Yam won't built it than Cat better.

New chassis coming from yammi, and yes its gunna be a turbo deal...;) This came from a good buddy of mine who works for yammi...I really hope he is correct as it would be a really good thing to see...and no he would not give me any details at all ..:(:(

Our 150ish hp two-strokes are lucky to

have 100 hp at high alt. A Cat turbo four=stroke at 170hp will still have 165hp at high alt. That my friends is the ''big'' gain. And we can dial it up from there.

Most of the hotshots out there can't even handle a stock 800.

I'm doubtfull anyone will be releasing much of anything with more power for awhile.

You actually think the manufacturers care who can handle a sled? Fact is, a lot of people are moving to turbo'd sleds. These guys are after market share and the first one that comes up with something good will increase theirs.

the apex is a US only model ad not available in canada. yamaha usually lets the model lineup go for 1 year longer in the states than they do in canada. exception would be the bravo which i beleive has been a canada only sled for a few years.

X cat owner Now Yam

I get sick and tired of buying new selds every year or so because they get 2 or 3 thousand on them and you wonder when there going to puke. I think I will try a Yam:face-icon-small-hap

Let me put it this way, it's a well-educated opinion........

i'll add to that by saying Im pretty sure the only reason there is any 2010 Apex/m1000 around is the factories using up eithier the sled or the parts.. NEW PAINT anyone:)

Wow. I cant believe what I'm reading. Where is all the two stroke diehards? Must be a dead bread now. Cant beleive people actually calling for four stroke snowmobiles. If Cat builds it you expect it to be 500 lbs? There good but not that good.

I don't know if it is 2 vs 4 in this case. I think at this point in time, although there are a lot of people that will disagree with me on this, that 2 stroke and 4 stroke mountain sleds serve a different purpose. The big time hillclimbers want the turbo 4's where I like being able to throw around my 2 stroke and don't care about climbing the biggest chutes.

Back to the main topic...I believe both Yamaha and AC will have new purpose built 4stroke mountain sleds in 2011. Oh, and I think Ski-Doo will as well seeing that they had a 2010 1200 summit that was actually ridden by some people. Here's the thing, don't think Ski-Doo is going to let Cat run away with the high hp class. If not next year, then the year after I fully excpect them to bring a supercharged or turbocharged version of their 1200 to the table, somewhere in the 180hp region.

I also don't expect these new 4stroke mountain sleds to be much over the 520lb mark. 180hp at elevation and about 520 lbs dry, stock. Yeah, that sounds pretty good to me!!

Joe you're dreamin'

There's little room for a big weight loss. Chassis weight is about as light as it can be in a M, XP or the mountain Poo. It's just that Cat can't get their four-stroke into the M. If you took a M sled and pulled the two-stroke and dropped the four-stroke turbo onto the chassi and a scale. It will way nearly 600 lbs wet. It still would be an awsome climber with 180 hp at altitude. Your 800 probably is only 130 nor 140 at high alt.
I agree a light sled is always better for boondocking. That's what I spend most of my time doing.
I disagree that Doo won't let Cat have the biggest power sled for long. There is not too much market to share there and Doo has fell out of that class many times before.
As for die-hard two-stroke guys wishing for a four-stroke, I'm not sure I fit into that catigory, but I'd try a four ''IF'' it's a stock Cat and it's a turbo.

I have no math skills, but

I still can BS my way thru the day. At least till ya call me on it. What might be the output, say at 9,000'? I know the boosted even loose a small bit.

no matter what brand

a stock sled with a blower or turbo is a step in the right direction. no one is going to sell a 300hp sled out of the crate because the market isnt big enough, but 180-190 hp stock (at elevation) is definately a great starting point

I have ridden my RX-1M from the winter of 02 to the winter of 08-09. I have done nearly every mod known to man and made up a few of my own, that I shared. Many of my riding partners went the turbo route on their four strokes. They love them and their sleds work great but, for some reason I still longed for a lightweight boondocker. Maybe it's because chutes and cliffs no longer appealed to me as much as they once did not so many years ago. And from riding four strokes for years, I have learned that regardless of how much power your sled has, if it's nose heavy it still wants to drag your butt to the bottom of every mountain (believe me, I've lived it for years). Yes, you can learn to deal with it and correct for it and I'm also sure the new fourstrokes are much better in that respsect.

The fourstrokes are very dependable and will last forever. I still have mine and love it but, personally I think I'm an even bigger fan of a sub 450 lb sled than makes as much dependable power as possible. Something on the line of the 2010 M8 with a few weight loss goodies.

The only fly in the ointment comes when elevation is added to the equation and the claimed 163 hp turns into something far less. Then, one guy in a riding group with a turbo makes everybody else look like schoolgirls.

Hence this entire discussion................

You guys could be right about the 1000 being gone after this year.
However, IMO, I think (hope) that cat keeps the 1000, they are good at marketing and giving us just enough each year to convince us to buy new. this year it is the updated 8.
Next year may be a 4 banger, but i hope it is an updated 1000 with 180+ hp.
That would be a very realistic possibility.

Killerk, that would be well within the cards if Cat applied the same tricks it used on the M8 engine to the M1000 engine.

The M8 horsepower went up close to 20 horsepower (143-163) If we applied the same numbers to the M1000 the sled could have close to 185 (162 -182) or more horsepower stock.

Now, if they could only meet EPA standards while doing so...
