It's about time...If Yam won't built it than Cat better.

Yes, I'm talking a stock turbo fourstroke mountain sled. I think Cat's getting ready to do it. They need a new chassis, but that's a given anyway. If they're going to make a new one then it better accomidate the fourstroke too. I think a good part of the current fourstoke weight is that Twin spar chassis, so maybe it could be relatively light in a mountain chassis.
I'd love to have a well tuned fourstroke turbo , with warrantee and dealer back-up.

yup....just make me a 500 lb sled (full of fuel ready to ride) thats makes around 225 hp...4 stroke with a 162 2.5 for about 15k with 2 yr warrenty....done deal

Well you will have to wait till Febuary and see if your dream will come true! :)

I would love to see this!

I hope your right, I would love to see both Cat and Doo put s boosted 4 stroke in an exclusive Mnt. chassis and spank Yamaha. I ride a well modified Apex but get damn tired of the same ho hum Yamaha offerings, never pushing the envelope and always leaving the owner to make the improvements so it's a competitive sled.
The 2010 Nytro SE 162 is a litttle better but how many years do you have to wait for them to finally build a decent mountain sled from the factory ? Yamaha has always been the cautious company never going above and beyond....bottom line oriented business....I'm sick of it! Either put up or shut up...bring something four stroke and impressive or go away. :D

yami's motto has always been build just one type and stick with it forever, can't believe they are still making the apex. does anyone still buy them??? same in the motorcycle and quads. if its not light then ac should just leave well enough alone. anyone check the weight on a z-1 turbo. hp numbers are impressive but weight numbers aren't. not interested in hauling an extra 100 pounds around...

Yeah, I have always been a two stroke lover, but

my green blood might lead me to put up with the weight and I'll bet it would be fun to keep the power at high alt.
I don't think Yam will do much, they just don't lead the way.
Look what Glen Hall's been doing. With D&D's help mod. Cats will be the ''new'' thing. I think he said with reprogramming the stock engine hit over 400 hp. That's porobably the extreme, but it's interesting. I thought I heard he hit 165 mph on blacktop.

I agree that they have always been cautious..which i think is good in some ways...you can buy a good stock sled and they will run good..but they do leave the potential to get the power out of them..like the 700 triples..you can get a lot of power out of that engine just with some pipes..i think that they do a good job of just being cautious and letting the owner decide what they want

Well I think it's clear that this is the last year of the M1000. No direct competitors except for Cats own M8 and no updates for the 2010 model year. Obviously if Cat is going to play the high horsepower game, which I think they will, the Turbo4 is the way they are going to go. It will not be in the Twin-Spar either. I expect a new mountain chassis from Cat in the very near future and I fully expect it to be 4-stroke powered in at least one form.

Cat is definitley due for a chassis update and if they can get a good chassis with a 4 stroke turbo motor in it, wow, I think there would suddenly be a lot more cats runnin around.

I am almost definitely going to a 4 stroke next year and turboing it but still unsure of which one I'm getting so I hope the manufacturers come out with some great products to compete with the nytro.

If you guys don't think Yamaha does anything cutting edge or out front, go to their website and take a look at the 2010 YZ 450F. Which company was it that made 4 stroke MX bikes competitive against the 2 strokes? Oh yeah, that was Yamaha. Who was the first to step up with 4 stroke sleds that are competitive with the industry norm 2 strokes? Yamaha again.
I'm not saying the Apex or the Nytro is the be-all end-all snowmobile, but Yammie has made big steps with their 4 strokes. The sleds still have a ways to go (mostly weight related), but the dirt bikes are among some of the best stuff available.

bikes yes , sleds no
Even if someone comes out with a factory turbo, I'll bet it's fairly heavy and very conservative power

I don't think it is clear.....do you know something we/I don't, or is that ust your opinion? Just curious.

that's a VERY educated guess. I don't even know that many dealers that ordered new m1000s this year. why would you if you have leftovers and a new M8 that ways considerably less AND has similar power? No brainer - the 1000 is finished - plus the damn cat engineers won't even admit there was a major belt eating issue. Guess the figure the sled is history anyway, so why bother fixing it.

This is true that Yamaha hasn't really come out with anything awe inspiring lately. However, personally from jumping from a rev to an M8 to an apex I have definetely seen the ups and downs of each. One thing that I can say about Yamaha is that the fit and finish of their sleds is top notch compared to the others. They just seem to be put together alot better and don't seem cheaply made. I admit they are heavier than Oprah, and stock for stock will lose due to weight, but have crazy potential to play with and make some serious reliable power....and isn't that one of the fun parts?? Tinkering with your toy??

That being said, I would also like to see the other companies jump into the 4 stroke realm....Especially Cat, if they were to dump the Suzuki Gixxer 1k motor into them that thing would be extremely fun to play with because those engines are like the R1 engine, bullit proof!! I might just jump ship if they did that again...lol

That would be Sweet to get a stock turbo for the mountains. But it would have to be close to the weight of a M1000;)

Don't think you can get a 2010Apex Mtx. Maybe this is the last year for the Apex. When did it take over from the RX1? '06? If that's the case its only been around for 4 model years. This will be the 3rd yr for xp series, and 4th yr for M series. I think Nytro takes over from Apex with a new motor for 2011 and 150+hp outa the box. If it aint broke don't fix it...at least till you got something better.
