most rods are a fixed length, the only reason some ktm ones have the rod ends is to accommodate the offset shock ktm "pds" style I believe. I don't think the rod is meant to be adjustable, but it is a nice feature. however I don't really know because I don't even have a timbersled I just build my own. I would assume center to center is the measurement. I would say modding the rod by more than a few percent of its recommended length is not a good idea, my opinion is timbersled knows more about it than u do. Its like anything, if u mod one thing ur gonna have to mod something else and something else. If you aren't willing to go out and do a lot of testing of the effects of this and that one variable at a time I would just run with what the company recommends. that's just my opinion. I'm glad u are hooked! have fun!
I bought my 13'CRF450 used and assumed that it had the correct shock rod on it. The previous owner swapped it from a fixed length rod to an adjustable rod. The problem is the adjustable only goes down to 14.25 inches and my bike calls for 13.5. So I cut it down to fit, I'm wondering how this will change things and if I should let out my limiter strap?(currently in the longest setting) Can't wait to try it tomorrow!
Did you measure the adjustable one center to center? 3/4" makes a BIG difference, I would think that the bike looked pretty goofy if it was off that much. The back fender would be pointing up, and the front of the track would be off the ground.
