Is the OEM fuel filter price really.....

So how many people are replacing these? Are you replacing them just as a precautionary measure or were there symptoms that caused you to replace it?

Can't you just cut the bad filter out of the line and replace it with a new filter and use hose clamps to secure it? $90 for a filter that I would like to replace after every season seems steep.

I suppose there are 100 ways to change it but with Polaris and their 1,000 ways to get out of warranty claims, I am sure they will be checking purchase history to find out if we had ordered filters yearly....?

Ya I was going to try this, but then I realized the hose that comes stock is that super thin plastic type hose wrapped in cloth protective sleeve which really can't be hose clamped. I then thought about just making a whole new filter with 3/8" EFI rated hose, and using the existing fittings. But after it was all said and done, I just ordered a new filter. I didn't want to have any issues with warranty and having an aftermarket fuel filter on there. But once the warranty is up, I will be definitely be making that setup. I kept the old filter/hose just for that reason lol

Has anyone replaced the filter on the pro yet? I was sizing it up today and noticed that there is a small allen bolt with a clamp that holds the hose into the fuel rail. However, the bolt is right behind the guard that is riveted to the clutch guard and there is hardly any access to it. Anyone have a trick to get this out?

Need to move the belt guard out of the way. 5mm allen fits the bolt, it is secured with blue loctite, A special Fuel line disconnect tool is needed to remove from the tank outlet.

What do you disconnect to move the guard out of the way? Just the two bolts on the front of it? I only need to move it enough to be able to get the allen wrench on there. I already have the tool from when I changed the filter on my assault last year.

I removed the 4, 10mm nuts holding the belt guard, then unplugged the 2 large connectors for the ECM, as not to stress the connectors and possibly damage the plugs. Then Lift the belt guard enough to gain access the the allen head bolt.

with the amount of miles a sled gets in its entire lifetime, unless you get crap in your tank or crappy fuel, can't see it ever needing replacing. i change fuel filters on cars and trucks that have over 100,000 miles on them and are still working fine all the time. so if poo says they need changed yearly they are just trying to make money by selling you a $100+filter...

Yeah, you would think so right? But Polaris, when they did the updates on the 08-09 Dragons, if you had anywhere near 1000 miles they 'required' a fuel filter. Dealers are telling people that they should be changed every 800-1000 miles.

Seems like BS to me, but that's what they are recommending. Maybe now that the margins for the part are decreasing they won't recommend it so often. :)
