I keep hearing of people riding yet every SnoTel sensor I've checked is like 6" or less :face-icon-small-dis

Gotta find somewhere to test this turbo out :)
 
Snotel is a good resource, but doesn't tell all. I have seen 48" readings on ours only to ride to it on 12 to find it covered in a drift.

Also seen it drop and ridden in to find a freak wind treewelled the sensor so it was five feet lower than actual snow.

I agree, however, most snotels are put in a location that is protected from wind and sun to give a better reading. Not always the case, but usually the goal. Snow can also fall off the limbs of trees and make a poor reading. Additionally early season the snow will settle much more than when there is a good heavy base.
