Gearing
Gearing affects your startability and top end. Lower gears will give you longer belt life, same as starting a truck in first gear will be better for the clutch, compared to second gear. With more traction (longer track & deep lug), you want lower gears and if you happen to be going to the mountains, you will lose power at high elevation, so you would want to gear lower yet.
Ultimately, you want to gear as low as possible, but not over rev the engine at top speed. This means figure out what your desired fastest speed is and gear for that. Here's an example: 19 tooth top gear / 47 tooth bottom gear (19/47) with 9 tooth 2.52" drivers (standard drive pitch), will give you 90 mph top end at 8000 RPM. This is very nice gearing for the all around if you don't need to go more than 90 mph.
Gearing does not change your power, just speed. Clutching is were you need to focus to best utilize the power you have, especially if you are going to the mountains.
