Is Crested Butte / Irwin worth the trip right now?

Wolf Creek was a bust today .... sugar snow and ice.

Thinking about heading up the CB tomorrow morning .... Is it worth the trip? All the SnoTel sites around Gunnison are showing like less than 50" of snow .... is that for real?

thats sucks...I thought it would be.

North seems to have the most recent snow.

Yeah, we should have hit the ears .... I'd never been to WC and had a 4-day weekend this weekend tho :)

We'd probably hit the ears up tomorrow but its a 5 hour drive from here :(

Talked to someone from the area 2 weeks ago and she said the snow levels have been really low in the CB/Gunnison area this year.. Not sure if that helps you or not.. I wonder what base is at the ski area?? We are riding the Ears in the AM...

No fresh snow since last weekend. Weds was 50 degrees, thurs was 50 degrees, Friday was 53 degrees with wind and partly sunny. Today warmer with sun as is tomorrow.

I'm riding the KTM down by Mccoy/Bond.

i think the ears has only had maybe 1 or 2 good days this year according to you:face-icon-small-dis i know you admit to being a powder snob, but damn man, some riding is better than no riding.

I was in the CB area last week, on friday I was happy to be on my 174". You just have to get up high and away from any popular zones. Some zones aren't really ridden at all until April, so if you head up into places like that now you're probably the first one in all season. Last Wednesday/Thursday they picked up ~10-12" in localized zones (Paradise Divide), then another storm came through last Saturday/Sunday. And for the record, the ski area snow totals mean nothing for the backcountry down there. Schofield Pass Snotel is currently at 66", down from ~72" a couple days ago, settling is good for stability.

But for the sake of the locals...the tree huggers make it not worth it:face-icon-small-ton

Rode the ears today, baked down for the most part but the trees were quite nice, really heavy snow falling when we left... Couple white outs during the ride but otherwise mostly sunny... Parking lot was mud at the end of the day.. Lots of tree riding left up there...

Hey, it's an honest report from the guy that lives here. Want me to lie and say it's f*ckin awesome and deep??!!

True, some riding is better than none. Hence, the dirt bike. I love riding as much as you guys, but when the snow turns to sh*t the fun factor goes down and believe me, I can find just as much stuff in the dirt to get that adrenaline fix that we all crave. I'm fortunate enough to live here, so when the conditions change I can easily throw a different bag and machine in the truck and head out.

Decided to just stay down south today, only rode for about 4 hours but found some softer snow in the trees and just played around on some sidehills and whatnot then called it a day.

The riding was sweet in Moab yesterday...
