Iran is coming apart.

Ah, a student revolution taking down the previous generation's student revolution. Brings a little tear to your eye. I really believe that the average, none religious extremist Iranian, are a people the US could get along with.

Ollie: As I pointed out before I watched Eisenhower reject the freedom fighters in Hungary and how the revolution was crushed, Imagine if the Hungarians had watched us invade and save Poland from communism and than refuse to support the Hungarians. The Iranians are probably one of the youngest populations in the world and the younger generation are becoming well educated, they have now watched 2 free elections in Iraq and rightly feel they have the right to the same freedoms unfolding in their neighboring country. This is definately a turning point in mideast history as I think the protestors are in the struggle to the end and if the US refuses to support them, at least with diplomatic support, they will have a difficult time removing the chains of the ayotollas, who are the actuall leaders in Iran.
What a time to have the IDIOT from Kenya as our commander in chief. The American people deserve what they get for electing him but the Iranian people deserve much more from America. Swampy :mad:

So you are suggesting the U.S. should put their hands in this mess even more? You do know we put the current party in power over there right?

You do know we put the current party in power over there right?

If you mean we put them in power because the ruling party they overthrew was supported by the U.S., then you would be correct. The previous ruling party repressed the people and ruled with an iron hand. Just like the current ruling party is.

If you are saying we put the current ruling party in power, that would be incorrect.

Pick any country in the Middle East and Africa over the last 20 years, and I bet you would have a pretty good chance of that statement being true for it.....

I wouldn't say we put too many other's in power. We do have our hands in everyone's cookie jar. Which is why many countries through the world hate us.

U.S. is smart to stay away from Iran right now, it will only spread more hate for the U.S. at this point. Let them fight for freedom if they want it.

The EU countries don't have the open hatred problem we do.
The reason is simple.
The EU countries have always allowed the U.S. to take the lead thus allowing them to remain hands off and pretty much blame free.
The U.S. needs to stand back a bit and let the EU get their hands dirty.
usually they just stand back and condem what happens without taking any action.

We need to do that now.
Let the middle east see what happens when we do nothing.

It's their mess, let them clean it up.
We will have to deal with who ever is still standing when it is done.

Usual liberal tactics, put words into someone elses posts, you should read all posts on the subject before making statements such as this quote from Ronald Reagan during the Polish revolution. He didn't invade Poland by the way but this was instrumental in the end of the soviet empire as it existed.
By the way how is that HOPE and CHANGE you voted for going?

I want emphatically to state tonight that if the outrages in Poland do not cease, we cannot and will not conduct "business as usual'' with the perpetrators and those who aid and abet them. Make no mistake, their crime will cost them dearly in their future dealings with America and free peoples everywhere. I do not make this statement lightly or without serious reflection.

You do know we put the current party in power over there right:?

WE did not put the current party in power, it was done by Jimmy Carter and his State Dept. Millions of US were fighting day and night to stop Carters subersion of the Shah. Swampy

Wrong... Jimmy Carter was way late to this show. The relationship with Iran and the United States was gone by then. During the Iranian Revolution (1979) they hated us and invaded a U.S. Embassy there taking hostages (one of the hostages lives in Fort Collins, CO).

Eisenhower was responsible for putting the current group in power, operation AJAX(1953).

Lets get one thing straight in a previous post I ranted on Eisenhower on his handling of the Hungarian revolution and I also remember his trainning of castro's troops to invade Cuba and than claiming he did not know Castro was a communist, that would have made him in the minority in America at that time. Also his handlinfg of the Russian captives after world war II and Katrin Forest. My opinion the man was a communist or at least a communist sympathizer. With that said his actions did help to install The Shah in power but was in no way responsible for the overthrow of the Shah in 1979. That was accomplished by Jimmy Carter and the american media. No matter what your opinion of the Shah he was the stabilyzing influence in the mideast for over 2 decades. I was involved at the time in efforts to stop Carters and the congresses action at the time to abondon Iran to the Mulas. Most of the protests at the time were directly fomented and bankrolled by the russians to get controll of the Iranian oil again. No Carter was not late to the show and the leader of the invasion on our embassy is now the president of Iran.
