his kid is almost close enough in age for the population to accept him going overseas to Iraq or Afganiistan...so ..????...we all have some experiences when we spend time with our children that 20 20 hindsight is wonderful...its all part of the process of life and living and learning...we just can;t stay in front of the tv with our children...

oh ok he "ALMOST" old enuff...so again I just asking how old is "ALMOST"??

well if ya read the other thread i think close to 18..so i would trust my son with instruction and the hardware and food to be ok for a time if i ventured out...i agree though...stick together etc etc stay put etc...but like i say...hindsight is hindsight...and life is learning...how many time we see our kids take a spill when they are learning to walk when we knew they were unsteady..??...we all have our little failures..just need to be thankful for the ones that dont have serious regrettable results...and we learn...and then a new day...we learn again..

in wyoming they ask when you buy a permit if ya want to donate to search and rescue i always do don't want them running out of gas 5 miles from finding me :face-icon-small-sho

cell coverage

is there a cell tower on the mountain? How many of you would count on your cell phone? most of the time it doesnt get coverage, i do carry it just in case. i read that they can track it? receive a signal, i dont know. but i dont count on it. what would they have done if there phone didnt work? they split up, in a blizzard, then left there sleds.

Cell tower was line of site from where we were stuck.
We could very clearly see the whole valley there.

But I also carry an GPS integrated Personal Locator Beacon in case I needed to reach out when there was no cell coverage.

When I left the boys to run back down the trail, I handed them the PLB with very specific instructions to activate in 30 minutes time if I was not back. I returned in 25 minutes, put my son on the sled and sent him down off the mountain.
