Intake i am working on

I thought about doing this but opted not to.

People on here advised me the wrap will rub off the ceramic coat on the pipe from expansion / contraction from heating and cooling of the pipe. Plus vibration from the engine.

Then the pipe will rust.

Also the wrap will hold moisture until it heats up.

Just the stock pipe so not worried about the coating. The same company sells a sealing spray to keep it from absorbing moisture and for coloring...the wrap will be black when I'm done.

Awesome Intake

This is awesome. I have been working on something similar. You are much farther along than I am. I am still brain storming ideas and trying to Identify possible issues. I started thinking about this a while back after seeing the Dubb's intake on this site. I really liked this intake, but was unable to purchase one. I didn't 100% care for the other options that were available. So I thought I would try to copy the concept somewhat and make my own.
I too was thinking of a "V" design between the throttle bodies to smooth things out in this area. I was considering it being squared at the back, with the "V" section iternal, to give it a smooth look and ease in the building of it.
I really like when people do there own thing. Anyone can slap down the cash and buy something, but original ideas are great even if they don't ever work out in the end.

he,s running a stock pipe with no ceranic coating, i dont think there would be anyreason to wrap a ceramic coated pipe as the ceramic is a decent heat barrier and the wrap would hold just as much if no less water as the insulation under the stock heat shields on the .

With the coating I sprayed on, it should hold less water. Plus, the heat should keep it pretty dry once the thing warms up. I'll post up some pics later as the black color looks a ton better.

Still haven't gotten around to getting pics of it black but there is another benefit to the wrap...the sled smells like fresh doughnuts once it warms up:D Also nice is the fact that I can touch the pipe without burning myself...even if it's running, so working on stuff when the sled is hot won't be such a pain and it's a great place to dry gloves.

And my intake works great...not a single bog last weekend and I had snow over the hood a bunch of times:cool:

I made lagging a long time ago in the Navy and used similar materials.

Lot heavier material than this method. Also, we used a red paste to cover the cloth and then painted it with enamel.

It insulates really well.

flash here is the TCP intake i had..to give you an idea of how they had theirs...SLP bought the design and modified it to the now SLP intake you know of..

regardless...you ingenuity is great..good luck on your creation!

That's the POS intake that was on my sled when I bought it. I'm currently reworking it to fit an oval taper K&N filter AND work with my Skinz bumper. This intake box has a V shaped "delta" on the inside between the throttle bodies that smoothly directs air to each cylinder. That's about the only thing I like about it. My design is similar to FLASH1970's, only instead of a wide flat filter I'm gonna run an oval taper filter that will fit between the bumper supports and stick down where the rad used to be. I'll get pics up when I get further along.

I thought about using an oval filter too but I couldn't find a filter in a size I wanted. Plus I wanted to have something that secured the filter instead of just the clamp on the oval filters.

Well, I'm off to work on my sled. Once I'm done I can get back to the intake project. I've hit a few hick-ups so it hasn't gone as smoothly as I wanted.

I too was day dreaming up a timbersled intake with a hole through the hood and putting the filter with a filter charger on it right out of the hood? expandable rubber hose like on the cat front intakes to connect it?

what do you guys think about this type of setup.

possible a blow off valve type foam filter inside the hood in case of powder build up?

just dreaming and sceaming here but been thinking about it for a year now... just don't want to cut up a $3bill airbox and hood to test... i see it working pretty well but need more input
