Insurance is renewing: what are quality coverages that are excessive and deductible?

I need to get my 2012 Pro and 2011 Tm8 insured and each sled for the year currently is 600. But, I have friends with the same sleds and they are paying 250 each sled.

So what should I be looking at or for coverages? I'll update this with mine shortly

ins

just save the money for the parts when you break them, or at least thats what i do. if i "total" it i can buy better lighter faster parts that way

Coverage is

A. 50k per person, 100k per accident - Liability body injury passenger liability

B. 25k Property Damage each accident

C. Medical Payments - $1000 each person

D. Damage to Vehicle - Collision $500 deductible, Other then Collision $500 deductible.

E. Additional coverages Optional Equipment - Can't exceed $500

Currently $540 each sled.

Really think these coverages above are WAY HIGH!!! But, what do other riders do, I never have a passenger. spend my days in the trees so not sure accident coverage needs to be very high. Any thoughts?

Buy the coverage that you feel comfortable with. Only you know what you have to lose in a worse case scenario.

50/100/25 seems like decent liability coverage but you might be surprised with how little the upgrade to 100/300/50 coverage might be.

As for medical expense, I would raise that to at least $5000. This is the coverage that pays for your medical expenses in the event of an accident regardless of fault. If you get hit by a sled on a ghost ride and are injured, this is the first to pay so you are not out of pocket for medical expenses.

As far as your comp and collision coverage go, pick the deductible you feel comfortable with in the event there is a loss. Rule of thumb is a higher deductible = lower rate. If your sled is totaled tomorrow, which deductible would you rater pay? Does the lower rate justify the higher deductible?

What limits do you carry on your vehicles? That is probably where I would start with coverages on the sled.

Food for thought... You are riding in the trees and set off an avalanche. The snow slides and traps and kills another rider. Do you think the 50k coverage you have now will protect all of your assets when the lawyers come knocking?

I have 250/500 I know I have a 2000 medical for myself. A few years back I broke my leg sledding and totaled the sled it was a older one and the insurance paid for it. I didn't even know I had a medical thing on there until i was renewing it and i seen that. I asked them about, why i never got anything or any info on it. They knew I was in the hospital and had hospital bills. They told me that anything like that happens I have to call in and request to use that medical, and that there was a time limit on that. I did receive the 2000 bucks from them but only after a lot of nice words were exchanged between the guy and myself. After everything was paid up and paid out I dropped them for that reason. So my advice is make sure you know every little loophole they can use in those situations. They are sure greedy every month to take your money but when you want to use the insurance Its like pulling teeth

Piece of advice. When your policy is ready to renew, schedule an appointment to discuss the policy with your agent. If they will not take the time to explain to you what coverage you have, they will not have the time to help you when you need it most. Even if you have to pay a little more, find an agent that is willing to help. There are plenty out there to choose from.
